Weird thing is, it's not like I'm talking about a budget oriented store.

I know more of their meats are coming in prepackaged and that selection is markedly reduced. Similarly, what's prepackaged is smaller — usually byvway oof thinner cuts (some uselessly thin).

Makes me wonder if they've reduced the shift-hours of their butchers (and perhaps shifted to having remaining butchers split times across stores).

My immediately-prior use of suspicious quotes is because their butcher case is no longer anything resembling full. The ever diminished stocking has been happening over the last yearish, but is now quite stark. I imagine the switchover to individually wrapped steaks and reduced amount put out are […]

Dunno if my grocery store is unique or part of a larger trend. If the latter, it looks like the runup in the price of beef is going to result in more plastic pollution. A butcher's case that used to only have slabs of cuttable meats an pre-sliced but thicker cut steaks is now mostly "filled" […]

Everyone in the room looked kinda horrified, like they expected the president to fire me on the spot. Instead he laughed then, at a subsequent corporate party, bought me a glass of expensive alcohol that wasn't part of the event's open bar. HE loved telling the story of my response.

I didn't tell him the story, but... My first IT job was working at Bell Atlantic Internet Solutions. I had the opportunity to be Bell Atlantic's very first xDSL beta tester. A couple months into the trial, we were having a corporate all hands meeting. Division president asked what I thought. In […]

One of the weird things about #ImposterSyndrome is how it combines with an unusually-acute ability to "pick things up". If you _have_ that ability, it feels like _everyone_ should. As such, you tend to discount your own ability to see problems that "experts" should have more-easily detected …but […]

Good Christ the new Tesla Roadster suffers a terminal case of the fuglies. Also, that body design is _not_ a roadster. I mean, for starters, where's the rag-top? When I think roadster, I think of the old my dad's old Metropolitan, the TR6, a classic Miata, Honda S200, my old Z3 or even just the […]

When it comes to the K-shaped economy, while our household isn't, strictly-speaking, on the lower-arm of the "K", we've definitely got more in common, financially, with those who are than those firmly on the upper-arm of the "K".
