Smaller ones could be a giant house spider (Eratigena atrica). Similar sized, shaped and coloured body, slightly shorter legs (up to about a 90 mm leg span). Fun fact - giant house spiders are one of the fastest running spiders in the world.

In other news, I ran today, because #RunningPunks #VirtualRunClub. Run as ever for the #BrokenPunks and all in the #NoRunClub. Brought you a picture of a #heron. Looks like a young one. Soundtrack was #TheWeddibgPresent #GeorgeBest. Bonus #SelfieSunday
Grey heron looking like it has just got out of bed after a cracking night out on the tiles and is looking for tea and a fry up before addressing how it feels about it being daytime. Stood in some water lilies on a river bank, presumably wondering how it got there and where its other shoe is. Idiot in Running Punks Unknown Trails t-shirt stood on a bridge over a river.

The UK had a haunted Victorian pencil masquerading as a politician who ordered all measurements in his office to be stated in imperial units, despite the fact that he was raised on metric measurements. I would describe him as a twat, but that's unfair to twats. A joyless grey marionette.

6.35 kg. I stopped measuring my weight in stones in my 50s and it took me about 3 days to not know what my weight in stones is/should be.

Ouch! I wonder what sort that was. Possibly a diadem - they are big web builders. Can you now climb walls? If not, then it probably wasn't radioactive.

With giant house spiders and cardinal spiders it is their size - much longer legs - and behaviour. They are out at this time of year looking for a mate. The females don't wander around as much. Diadem spiders most of the ones you see in webs are females - the males are smaller and more mobile

“Christian” pastors cheering on public executions when the whole Christian faith is based on the abhorrence of the gruesomeness of a public execution shows how far Christian Nationalism is off the rails.

Britain's largest spider is Tegenaria parietina, or the cardinal spider (apparently Cardinal Wolsey was terrified of them and they were common in Hampton Court). Here's a male one on my back door.
A large brown male cardinal spider. It is mostly legs, to be honest. The leg span on this fellah is about 120 mm.

They are not dangerous to humans and the males don't live very long. They get randy, wander about to find a mate who then kills them.

The males have a larger leg span than the females, but smaller bodies.

If you see one, leave it alone. It won't bother you, and if you touch it you could damage it.

Most important bit of the BBC streaming reporting on the Fonagty report into mental health. #FuckWesStreeting
A photo of a section of the BBCs streaming reporting on the Fonagty report on mental health. It shows Professor Fonagy talking to the BBC with the headline "Wes Streeting 'completely wrong' about over-diagnosis, says review author"

The text below the photo says:
The author of today's report, Prof Peter Fonagy, has been speaking to Radio 4's Today programme.
He starts by saying that former Health Secretary Wes Streeting - who first commissioned the review - was "with respect, completely wrong" when he talked about an over-diagnosis of mental health disorders.

It's a trap!
A portly tabby cat asleep on his back on a red sofa*, exposing an extraordinarily fluffy tummy. Do not be fooled.

He can move surprisingly quickly for a big lad and those big paws conceal eight razor blades - Attempting to engage with the tummy would leave you short of a useful quantity of claret...

*The sofa is actually green, but is covered in a red blanket, which is all that is visible here.
