Many thanks for letter from Mary Danby. I'm toying with the idea of sending her my 'waxwork' horror story, rejected by H. van Thal. It's certainly horrific. Expect 'Pan' will say the same as 'Fontana', but always worth trying. Beautiful, huge green dragonfly in garden yesterday.

We’ve spent many, many hours over the past few months searching the rock pools of Cornwall for a rainbow sea slug. Today, we finally found one! Absolutely worth all the time we’ve spent - it was truly breathtaking.

A very distant, much zoomed-in-upon, grainy and bashful kingfisher from this morning's dog walk. But a briefly paused dot of electric blue is still a dot of electric blue injected into a morning. And its flight to get to its perch was all the startled joy you could wish for.
A photo of the back of a kingfisher, perched on a branch, against a backdrop of green leaves.

Painting created c.1967, by Mary Lorraine, in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital, where she was compelled to live. Several of her surviving works depict dancers & we have reason to believe she, herself, was a trained ballet dancer. This & other biographical details are awaiting confirmation
Painting in an untaught style of six white ballerinas doing a barre class with a teacher in pink tutu in the centre of the room.
The practice is room is opulent with large scalloped gilt framed mirrors and a gold and crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling, although the figures are anatomically incorrect and actually impossible, there is an incredible sense of movement which is really evocative and somehow true to life and despite the perspective of the room being all wrong, it also gives a sense of place, of the long narrow room filled with music and purpose

The strangest thing happened today. We went to the uninhabited island of Lunga, west of Mull, to look at the puffins nesting there. I was just taking photos when I felt a thump as something landed quite heavily in my head. It was a puffin! It stayed for about a minute before flying off.
A man with his back to the camera, wearing a blue jacket and a grey woolen hat. A puffin is sitting on top of his head. On the left, an arm holding a mobile phone can be seen. In the background, a green slope and the sea beyond. In this photo the puffin is taking off.

Today, I lived Rachael Carson’s “What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?” On Ring Mountain in Marin County, CA, you might find a wildflower growing nowhere else on Earth, except on this thin rocky outcrop. Tiburon Mariposa Lily (Calochortus tiburonensis) 🌿
A lily wildflower that is mainly light tan and green with some pinkish red markings. The petals have an unusual fringe throughout the interior. It has a center pistil with six stamens that have spots and a brownish pollen.

From Wikipedia: Calochortus tiburonensis is a perennial growing from a bulb to 10–60 cm in height with a single leaf. The ciliate, light yellow-green petals are streaked with purplish-brown. When mature, ovaries form a capsule full of small, dark brown seeds.A lily wildflower that is mainly light tan and green with some pinkish red markings.
