Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026The gentle tension of the book focuses on the challenge of joining a healthy community after traumatic experiences. The difference between self-protection and genuine safety is a critical theme of the story. Leading to a paragraph that captured my attention: 000
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026The focus is on the main character and so the novel is light on intricate science. The romance spice level is somewhere between 2 and 3. All of that works for me, so I found All We Have Left to be a enjoyable read. :) 110
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026If you enjoy cozy fiction, a romance focused SF, or you're looking for a lighter, easier SF read, this one is for you. 110
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026All too often, SF hand-waves traumatic experiences away without recognizing that it is often a long journey to process and manage trauma. Acknowledgement of that in post-apocalyptic fiction was great to see. 120
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026"But it's been twelve years. How are you--after twelve years..." It never goes away. That should be the most depressing thought in the world, because if he's reliving the horrors of his youth, what are the chances I'll ever put away mine? ..." 120

Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Published by Penguin Random House as an easily read 384 pages, All We Have Left was very comfortable to read. The challenges that Kayla faces are primarily personal and social. 120
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026🪐📚💙🌶️📚 I've finished reading Emily Paxman's "All We Have Left" -- a cozy post-apocalypse romance set in Canada. I had the privilege of listening to Emily Paxman read a chapter aloud at #worldcon. A wonderful experience, the characters of Kayla and April came to life as she read. 1111
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Gracious. The past 3 days caught up with me this morning. I woke an a usual early hour -- but then I had to go back to sleep for a few more hours. Missed a few things I wanted to attend this morning, but I'm substantially more functional than I would have been otherwise! #worldcon #worldcon2026 110
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026*nods* Felt like all were well written works while each landing in very different parts of SFF. Makes it difficult to choose just one, and fortunately readers can read them all. :) 020
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Really interesting how differently each book lands with folks. I loved the discoveries of Harrow's Everlasting. To be fair, I love time travel, so I've some bias. :) I think the community is going to disagree but my pick for "Best Novel of 2026" would be Okorafor's Death of the Author. 110
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Early waking, A car ride, a plane, another car ride and then I’ll be at #worldcon. If everything goes smooth, I’ll be there in time to get through registration and make it to the first panel I want to attend: “Personifications of Death”. :) I might even get checked into the hotel at some point.:) 020

Example: there are FAR more male doctors than there were 100 years ago. But the percentage of doctors who are men has fallen. 336287

Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Anne McCaffrey is one of my favorite authors. Selected books from her Perm series were go-to comfort reads. Been a long time since I read Crystal Singer…wonder if it lands the same today. 000
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Hehe. Lawful evil and true neutral, while wishing for lawful good (not all books have a ribbon). Grew up with neutral evil, sometimes still do it out of habit. 000
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Indeed! And hopefully remember to start reading as soon as the finalists are announced next year! I was quite slow to start this year. :) 000
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 08/08/2026🪐📚💙 #booksky Thank you for sharing this! Turns out I didn't need to chase down all of the publications, it was all right there in a downloadable packet in the Hugo voting web application. Voting ends in like an hour and half -- I can read everything I haven't yet read in that time, right? ;) 130
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Indeed. I tend to read short collections slower than equivalently sized long fiction because I like to process the thoughts that a work evokes between stories. More stories, more processing sessions. :) 000
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 08/08/2026In case it helps others find the poems. :) I wasn't able to track down one: “Landing: Seattle” by Brandon O’Brien (Seattle Worldcon 2025 Opening Ceremony) 100

Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Great timing for this post, I was just wondering where to find the short fiction Hugo Award nominees. I've a mere 17 hours left to read nominees and vote before the deadline arrives! 021

Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Not yet showing up in my search. I'll check again soon. In the meantime: Thank you for making it possible to order a copy through B&N. Much appreciated and I look forward to reading it when it arrives! 110

Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Agreed. In some ways, the issues remind me of the struggle I have with Jules Verne. There’s lots of cool things to look at, but I don’t find the story compelling. I’ve friends who really love Jules Verne, though. I wonder what they’d think of Shroud. 000
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Agreed. I made an attempt at going through it last night and it was too much to process in one go. I can't imagine what it was like to move all of this around to make it fit together. Maybe giant-sized wall of sticky notes? Figuring out meals and breaks and sleep may be beyond me as yet. :) 100
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 27/07/2026That's awesome. I'm currently reading that issue of Shoreline of Infinity -- the story I last read made me cry. Great story, looking forward to reading more of the issue! 011
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 26/07/2026No judgement from me if “In Another Time” is only available on Amazon. I understand that you have to balance investment against how many will sell — doing what’s best for the magazine. It’d do you no good to do a print run for bookshop or B&N if too fee are purchased through those stores. :( 110
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Broadly, for print media, I shop at my local place first, then bookshop.org, and then B&N. I tend to pay more this way but I prefer to have the personal connection with my local store or contributing to my local store. 110
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Definitely. I actually went for the hardcover for #3 & $20+tax. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m representative of your market. I imagine its difficult to predict how much of a print run will sell at a given price. I also like Bookshop.org since they support my favorite local store. 110
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Is this issue only available on Amazon? Issue #3 I was able to get through Barnes & Noble, but I'm not seeing it on their site. 110

Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 20/07/2026:) Lasso’s leadership reminds me of a manager I once had, who was a really great leader. Its reassuring to see the qualities I admire portrayed in a show. :) 010
Iain @feaelin.bsky.social · 20/07/2026If you like fantastical stories with shifting perspectives and sudden shifts in "what you know", you'll have fun with The Everlasting. If you prefer a more linear storytelling format -- proceed with caution. [4/4] 030
