Egypt: one authority affiliated with the presidency approves rice exports for a fee, imports the wheat and licenses businesses in its own zones. Its profits reach the state budget only if the president issues a decree 🇪🇬 It's called state capture by one man, the president ⚡️

The Conservatives in France make the same mistake as those in Germany, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands and the UK: to beat the far-right and populists they imitate them. And the far-right and populists continue to rise because the electorate feels the copy is legitimising the original ⚡️

‘I sleep with all my clothes on.’ That is how a girl protects her privacy in a French juvenile prison ⚡️ Some children there spend 23 hours a day in their cells. France has increased the number of children it detains by 28% in three years. But: children are children!
In France, only three of the six juvenile detention centres are authorised to accommodate girls.
Photographer Alexandre Bagdassarian spent eight months following the daily lives of children in a prison system criticised for the long time spent in cells.

The UN Rapporteur on the occupied territories said Jews were called Muslims on the way to Nazi gas chambers. But ‘Muselmann’ were prisoners starved to near death. She apologised today. In 2022, she regretted a post claiming a Jewish lobby subjugated the US. Worrying pattern ⚡️
Screenshot of a post on X by Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur, from the account @FranceskAlbs, dated 28 September 2026 at 14:20. The post reads: I sincerely apologize. I misread the term 'Muselmann' (Muslim) used in Nazi camps for prisoners at the brink of death, wrongly inferring that the term antisemitism originally meant hatred of all Semitic peoples. In fact it was coined specifically to denote hatred of Jews. The post shows 1.1 million views, 1,300 replies, 1,000 reposts and 4,600 likes.

Russian courts take 10 minutes to send someone to a psychiatric hospital. They approve over 99 per cent. 49 people held in psychiatric hospitals in political cases, most for opposing the war ⚡️ Russia's psychiatrists remain full members of the World Psychiatric Association WPA_Psychiatry #WCP26
A square infographic with a white background, titled Psychiatry as a weapon, with the subtitle A hidden face of Putin's war against Ukraine. It presents seven findings in brown and black. A grid of 64 dots, 49 of them filled, shows that 64 people were sent by courts to forced psychiatric treatment between 2017 and 2025, and that 49 were still locked in hospital at the end of 2025. A ring chart shows that 58% of cases are linked to speaking out against the war. Three bars show the age of those affected: 28 born after 1990, 19 born between 1970 and 1990, and 17 born between 1950 and 1970. A clock icon shows that court hearings last about 10 minutes per case and that 99% of requests are approved, out of up to 20,000 a year. Two icons show a double standard: critics are declared mentally ill, and people who are ill are declared fit for prison. An iceberg illustrates that known cases are the tip, with Memorial and OVD-Info banned, lawyers arrested, and around 48 teenagers in occupied Donetsk reportedly sent to forced treatment with no details known. A globe icon notes that Russian psychiatrists remain full members of the World Psychiatric Association, followed by the question How long? The logos of the Andrei Sakharov Research Center for Democratic Development at Vytautas Magnus University and the Federation Global Initiative on Psychiatry appear at the bottom.

Sudanese women and girls falling prey to sexual exploitation in Egypt ⚡️ Trying to escape war and gender-based violence in Sudan, female refugees in Egypt are struggling to pay for food, medical care, rent. Egypt doesn't help them, dismantling of USAID, defunding of UNHCR left them without resources
A digital illustration set against a deep purple and golden background depicts a surreal moment of surveillance and loss of identity. On the left, a translucent silhouette of a person stands in a warm, golden-lit doorway. In the centre and right of the composition, a large abstract figure dominates the frame, its body rendered entirely in geometric patterns—squares, dots, lines, and chevron marks in shades of purple and gold—suggesting data, information, or digital systems. The figure's head is turned in profile, but where the face should be, there is only a hollow void: a large, empty oval tunnel. One hand clutches a folded document. To the far right, another shadowy figure observes in the darkness. The composition conveys themes of digital monitoring, dehumanisation through data systems, and the erasure of individual identity beneath layers of surveillance and algorithmic reduction.
