Economist and anti-corruption advocate Dr. Gubad Ibadoghlu, who has ties to Virginia, has been unjustly detained in Azerbaijan for 1,000 days. No one should be imprisoned for speaking out against corruption. Azerbaijan must uphold human rights and due process.

This is why the absence of the rule of law and judicial independence, coupled with the systematic application of arbitrary detention in Azerbaijan, should constitute a fundamental concern for Europe in its entirety ⤵️

Today, a court sentenced Anar Mammadli to 13 years 🇦🇿⚡️ His crime: building Azerbaijan's only independent election watchdog. The Council of Europe gave him its human rights prize in 2014, whilst he served his first sentence for the same work. Since @coe.int leadership is silent. Release him ✌️
Campaign poster in dark navy, teal and pale yellow. A stylised, high-contrast portrait of Anar Mammadli fills the upper two thirds: a man in his forties with short dark hair, rectangular glasses and a moustache, wearing a dark suit jacket, shirt and tie, looking directly at the viewer. The website address www.endrepression-az.org appears in small capitals in the top right corner. Beneath the portrait, large yellow block capitals read "Freedom for Anar Mammadli", with the line "End repression in Azerbaijan" in teal capitals along the bottom.

The political prisoners in Azerbaijan embody Europe's stated values and the principles the Council of Europe has been built on 🇪🇺 To them, silence is deafening. If they stop believing in these institutions, European human rights bodies lose their best advocates and relevance.

Seven years after Mammadli v Azerbaijan, the @echr.coe.int's judgment remains unimplemented 🇪🇺🇦🇿 The same indictment template now silences a new generation of journalists and human rights defenders and Anar Mammadli is in prison again. We ask @coe.int for an ad hoc mechanism.
Vertical infographic in the Campaign's brand palette. The upper third is muted teal with the title set in large cream Oswald Bold capitals; the lower two thirds are dark navy. Illustration of Lady Justice blindfolded, holding three scales. The left scale is imbalanced, weighted heavily toward "Energy" and "Trade." The right scale tips toward "Human Rights" and "Rule of Law," but is visibly outweighed. The EU flag with yellow stars appears at top left, with an arrow pointing toward the figure. Title reads: "The European Union is Trading Away Principles." The image uses teal and yellow tones to symbolise the EU's prioritisation of economic interests over human rights commitments.
