Faith McCullough won Ashland’s Woman of the Year Award in the 60s, first place in the Oregon Press Women awards and was a leader at the First Presbyterian church of Ashland. Earlier, she had worked for “a paid Nazi propaganda agent sent to the US to unite Nazis and the KKK.” This story is wild!

Owl of the Day: Speckled Boobook 📷 Christoph Moning
Owl perched on a branch, photo. Description from ebird: ‘A distinctive medium-sized owl with a rounded head, prominent white eyebrows, dark eyes, a white belly, and a widely spotted gray upperside and crown. Found in forest and edge in the lowlands and foothills, often in pairs. Confined to Sulawesi and satellite islands. Voice atypical of boobooks: gives a high-pitched, incessant series of single notes, “ru-ru-ru,” like the sound of a small dog barking. Frequently builds in volume and pace, ending in a short explosive sequence of agitated shrill squeals.’

Drawing created by Paul Davidson c.1967, in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital, where he was compelled to live. This is one of a small number of his surviving works & no biographical information is currently known to us
A crayon drawing of a white boy’s head with short brown hair and purple and orange rays emitting from his eyes, he is inside a square structure reminiscent of a window of theatre set with prance curtains, above a rectangle full of blue and green stars with red legs, and on either side are hands with their index fingers pointed

Clouds of Albion, for Max
David Hayden Nov 15, 2023
Fiction
Norman played dominoes in the kitchen, not waiting for the lost ones to show. Spots under his palms. Norman, the once upon a time beautiful boy, shattered twink, reverb child, horny fingered string bender, had lost his hair in one big surprise. Ivory rectangles clacked together to make patterns that Norman was sure would eventually be the key, the number, that might turn behind his eyes and release a flow of awe and rage and tunes from where they were trapped, whirring like thugs' knives forever in that alley in 1972. Over and over, he moved the tiles and stared into the new shapes chance had made. He liked a small glass to drink out of, as he emptied the skinny green bottle of red wine that tasted of raspberries and smoke.

Saw Lost Highway on release and had no idea what was going on. Seen it a lot since. Taking it in sections, I 'get it' much more without losing the mystery of it. Valuable to get Patricia Arquette's take on the film via the book and her section of the documentary. @davidlynchsworlds.bsky.social

The gable end of a building that was previously not the end, as evidenced by bricked up fireplaces etc. The shadow of the bus station opposite is reflected and looks a bit like imagined stairs on the left and a chimney stack on the right. Below are electrical units, a curved bike shelter and left facing traffic lights. Above is bright blue sky with cheery clouds. Buildings to the fore and back are on either side.

Rereading the LOST HIGHWAY section of these interviews... "It's kind of a horror film, a kind of a thriller, but basically it's a mystery. That's what it is. A mystery." It's a bit of a clue as to what it is I've been doing ... or been working on... for the last few years.
