you only have to read the Court's public corruption jurisprudence to realize that a bipartisan belief on SCOTUS is that it is almost ipso facto impossible for a public official to commit a crime related to the office they hold. which is insane when you spell it out, but also an accurate summation.

What's extra enraging about these stories of workers getting killed or disabled by heat stroke is that it is so, so easy to prevent. Workers just need access to water, rest, and shade. Employers just don't want to do it.

Our life experiences matter to how we think about the state, e.g. how we think about burdens in social programs. The fact that the US is an unequal society means that we mostly have wealthy people determining policy that affect working class people. bsky.app/profile/donm...
Few legislators are working class in US or elsewhere
Two scholars found that although about half of U.S. workers have working-class jobs, only 1.1% of U.S. legislators get elected soon after having that kind of occupation. They found similar patterns around the world when they studied data from 97 democracies. https://theconversation.com/why-working-class-people-account-for-around-1-of-lawmakers-in-the-us-and-only-2-in-the-average-democracy-around-the-world-288677

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."
