For decades the "winter of discontent" that led Thatcher to power was the benchmark for ppl my age and yet, its barely a ripple on this chart... I guess we really did 'never have it so good'...

I agree, as soon as I saw it as a headline I was triggered - the forces at work to push false agendas and drive the UK into the abyss are strong..

I think there is a big difference between 'at the time' & 'with hindsight'. For a mood change 'at the time', I'd say commuting into London the day after Labour won in '97 felt different - Every one was smiling. Diana's death was also a massive vibe shift, & working in London, ignoring it was hard..

@webberross.bsky.social - discussion point for your podcast. This week has encapsulated what being a RFC fan is like currently - entertaining home draw vs. lucky/gutsy away win...How did you both feel after each game? Would you prefer a run of entertaining draws or a run of wins like Burton?..

Having Johnson & Cummings in Downing Street when Covid struck was, just like Brexit, an entirely avoidable disaster caused largely by utterly appalling journalism. Nothing better sums up the threat to our democracy and country than this far right cosplaying champion of the working class lolling about in a Belgravia club and the Sunday Times giving him a megaphone to honk out his ruinous Trumpian populism to a public tired of govt failure (that he helped cause)
