I noticed everyone takes the same pictures of Robot Base, with a static, almost wiki-esque pose. As a consequence, here’s something very simple which shouldn’t be mind-blowing, but probably is. Surprise.

Overkill is here from the 90s to blind you with his colors and obliterate you for not drinking Fruitopia or revering Rugrats to his mechanical satisfaction. He’s a great update. The original had a huge voice box for garbled phrases. This one you have to speak for. ⚡️I WOULD LIKE SOME PB CRISPS⚡️

KA-CHOW!
Rifle and blast effects not included

In tightened that articulated claw with one of my fancy tricks that you can read about in my book.

So tall! So handsome!
My one complaint here is I would have liked the chest doors to be translucent like the original. Just one more step towards eradicating any sense of cohesion with this design. Plus translucent plastic looks like candy. Just ask the iMac.

Overkill with a large minigun but the minigun is maybe a laser. It’s loosely based on his giant vintage gun. There was no room in his very well used budget for this, but ideally he’d have his old gargantuan sound pack repurposed as an ammo pack to feed this thing whatever it fires. Fruitopia cans, ideally. Like a Vulcan Raven for hydrating your dusty ass.

I wanted a closeup of how well Overkill’s eye can be seen through the mask, but Kiwi had other ideas. It’s worth noting that the removable mask was not on the original so this was optional and it rules that they went for it. It is basically held on by hope so it can pop off sometimes. I heated and pinched it a little then ran it under cold water and that seems to help a lot.

I really like him! I didn’t expect much. He feels just shy of necessitating a deluxe price point, which is always great. 100% new with very unique bits. Love it.

Wip. Building a little Art Nouveau house for a commission piece. It will have a little garden in the foreground and some Japanese pines framing the house.

the image shows a work in progress piece with a three-floor house in the center. The house shows mostly interior of the house with a few exterior details blending into design. Some rooms have murals on the walls and some have wallpaper. The house is densely decorated with wooden details and windows. The house is mostly neutral with brown, beige, green and orange colors. The background is blue and empty because i haven't stated working on it yet.

Hotel Flamingo A dollhouse commission for a scenery sticker.

The image shows a dollhouse artwork of a hotel. The hotel has 4 floors and is decorated in Art Deco style. The first floor has two rooms: a lobby and a tourist information room. In the lobby, a concierge is standing behind the front desk. A lady with a fancy white poodle is walking toward the elevator and a liftman is holding the doors for her. The room has some chairs, art objects and some luggage. Tourist information room has a round desk with a lady standing behind it. There is a table and two guests are sitting near the table. The room has some games and posters with various entertainment locations and events.
Second floor has three rooms: a master suite, a corridor and a smaller room. Master suite shows two rooms with an arch between them. A young man is smoking a cigar while looking away. A lady is holding a book while walking towards the door. The room has patterned walls and various furniture. A large bed is visible behind the arch. In the corridor, a hotel maid is standing next to the room housekeeping cart. On the right side there's a smaller room with yellow walls. A lady standing near the door. There's a big bed behind her with clothes scattered around the bed and the floor and a greyhound dog is stretching next to the bed.
Third floor has two rooms: a corridor and a dining room on the patio. The corridor has a sofa and elongated chairs. A man is standing next to a woman with his hand reaching towards her. A lady is sitting on a sofa. On the patio people are dining. There are three tables in the back and two tables in the front. The roofs of some buildings are visible in the background.
The top floor has one room. The room is a club with a big balcony and large windows. There's a stage in the center with a band performing. Dancers are dancing in front of the stage. Guests are watching the performance while having drinks.
The artwork is mostly dark blue, mustard color and turquoise. The artwork has a patterned frame.

Recently went through Yokoyama's adaptation of Suikoden and was struck by how much of the cast was represented in Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still. For those interested, I put together a quick reference chart comparing the original manga incarnations with their OVA counterparts!

Yasuhiro Imagawa’s 7 episode OVA Series Giant Robo(1992 - 1998) features many characters from manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Of these, his 1967 - 1971 adaptation of Suikoden (The Water Margin) is quantitatively the best represented. The following is a reference key for IDing characters that appear in both works.

3 Wu Yong the Resourceful Wisdom Star - Professor Go

4 Gongsun Sheng the Dragon in the Clouds Leisure Star - Issei the Taoist Monk

8 Huyan Zhuo The Double Clubs Prestige Star - Ko-Enshaku

9 Hua Rong the Little Li Guang Hero Star - Shoriko no Kaiei

17 Yang Zhi the Blue-Faced Beast Dark Star - Yoshi The Blue-Faced Beast

20 Dai Zong the Magic Traveller Speedster Star - Taisou The Spiritual Buddhist

22 Li Kui the Black Whirlwind Killer Star "Iron Ox" - Tetsugyu

38 Huang Xin the Guardian of 3 Mountains Malignant Star - Koushin chin Sanzan

61 Fan Rui the Demon Lord of Chaos Correct Star - Hanzui The Evil Messiah

87 Zhou Tong the Little Conqueror Empty Star - Shutsu

27 Ruan Xiaoer the Tai Su who stands his ground, Sword Star, No. 29 Ruan Xiaowu the Short-Lived 2nd Brother, Guilt Star, No. 31 Ruan Xiaoqi the Living King Yama, Defeat Star - Gen Brothers Shoji, Shogo, and Sochiji

34 Xie Zhen the Double Headed Snake, Savage Star No. 35 Xie Bao the Twin-Tailer Scorpion, Crying Star - Ryotoda no Kaichin and Sobikatsu no Kaiho

While not listed in the liner notes, I have included the below possible relevant connections. Hu Sanniang, for being the most prominent woman in The Water Margin and holding the title of the “10-Feet of Blue” feels like she may have informed Yoshi, and Han Tao’s distinctive face mask resembles the one worn by Zangetsu the Midday.

59 Hu Sanniang the 10-Feet of Blue Bright Star - Yoshi The Blue-Faced Beast

42 Han Tao the General of 100 Victories Majestic Star - Zangetsu the Midday
