Think about how little your representatives have said or done to defend their colleague Ilhan Omar. Now try to imagine how little they will do when it's our turn.

this is the ultimate end point of capitalism, ai will completely atomize everyone and there will be zero shared experiences. there will be no culture, only pure consumption. this must be resisted

The entire and complete reason why Every Investment Dollar is getting poured into this genAI shit is so that they no longer have to care what you think about it Your labor isn't needed, your spending isn't needed, your vote isn't needed, and neither is your life. They want you as vermin.

We really do let yt men get away with too much. Like, I genuinely never understood his appeal. Sure, he's got charisma, but it's got sliminess all over it. It was mind boggling to me that other people didn't really notice.

I don't want to be too critical of people, but I just see this happen so often. That people just ignore the red flags instead of talking to their friends. It comes across as enabling behavior, even if that's not the intended objective.

My point is that that didn't need to happen if they had been proactive at the beginning of the relationship. Or just anytime earlier than this.

fabledsoup.bsky.social @fabledsoup.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Which is why some people would continue to enable their friend and continue to try to just get along and not rock the boat. So at least it's good that so many of Dan's streamer friends are speaking up and distancing themselves from him.

People are so conflict avoidant. But it's so much easier to decide early on in a friendship that you're just not going to vibe than to ignore that shit for years and years until they eventually slip up in such a big way that you can't ignore it anymore. That attachment is harder to break by then.

If these things matter to you so much that you'd cut ties with them, then you should be having conversations with your friends about what's important to you. Otherwise, it just looks to me like intentionally looking the other way until you can't anymore.

I can't imagine being a close collaborator and a friend of someone for years and years... And you aren't aware of the abhorrent politics they espouse. I'm having these conversations with my friends. They know where I stand and I want to know where they stand.

I'm guessing that, again, despite the obvious signs, people wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. In general, I think people do like to ignore red flags. But that just leads to complications down the road.

Anyway, I'm confused about why people didn't realize before this that he is a conservative and likely doesn't have a problem with the various atrocities the current administration has committed.

I guess it's maybe safer to admit publicly now that I've always thought of him as an overrated BB winner. He always seemed like a slimy character to me, but I think he got away with it because of his white Christian man image did a lot of the heavy lifting.

I never forgot that Dan Gheesling said that he doesn't believe that women should ever be president. I was always confused about why people liked him so much when it was very clear to me that he was deeply conservative.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

everything we are seeing now is the consequence of having a political environment in which indifference to the deaths and suffering of other people - even by the state whose supposed responsibility is to safeguard their welfare - is a superpower rather than a political liability

collective memory is something you have to work at constantly, and the persistent drumbeat of land acknowledgements is an extremely valuable way to produce widespread consciousness of basic material fact of dispossession and genocide

Alice Wong’s legacy is the political horizon she helped articulate. A horizon where disabled knowledge is central, and care is a shared commitment. She taught us to name grief & rage without collapsing under them, to celebrate disabled brilliance without ignoring the material conditions shaping life

More people need to understand that saying only “criminals” should be subjected to expanding state violence around us is what led to the broader public being targeted by it, too. Criminality is subjective, and power determines what it is or is not.

A friend of mine was on Charlie Kirk's "watch list" of Black professors. She received so many death and rape threats that her university offered her a security detail for the walk to class. This is Kirk's legacy. You would never know it from reading all of these legacy newspaper op-eds about him.

Never believe that anti-
Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will
