Since it comes out in just over one week, I should probably talk a bit more about my book. Despite the subtitle, it’s very much talking about both music and cycling in Japan for most of the time, though it’s something a bit different from a guide to those things.
My book, “Tokyo Doesn’t Exist - not a guide to music or cycling in Japan”, held up against a background of greenery to make it look more interesting.

It continues to astound me that "Twin Peaks" was broadcast on a major network. I can't imagine who today would have the vision to create a show like this, not to mention a platform that would run it as a weekly serial.

I loved most of Burn Notice, but the last two seasons definitely ruined it for me. The writing became sloppy, the plots inconsistent, the villains grotesque, the characters' motivations unrealistic, etc. It was a huge letdown following what was initially one of my favorite shows.

There's an interesting ontological debate buried in the American version of "Ghosts". Pete argues that donuts and donut holes are equivalent because they are made of the same substance. Carol insists that they are fundamentally different because each attains its form through a distinct process.

Growing up in Michigan I heard a lot of classic Motown, but always in the context of these being local acts. On the other hand, I seem to recall local "oldies" radio stations playing more British bands. There's definitely a retroactive narrative that doesn't necessarily reflect how it actually was.

This all started the other day when I heard "I Feel Fine" and "Come See About Me" on the same day and, looking them both up, I realized I had never really explored these musical movements in terms of actual chart performance.

Perusing the Hot 100 charts for the 1960s, & it's wild to see groups like The Beatles & The Supremes battling for top spots. I knew the British Invasion & Motown golden age coincided (with groups on both sides covering each other's songs) but I didn't realize just how intense the competition was.
