What kills me is how their fantasies inherently prevent any sort of human connection or community. Obviously you lose the communication between creators and audience. But also, let's suppose genAI did manage to spit out bespoke content that touched you deeply.

As it turns out, speaking in a (superficially) clear way that's not out to start a fight is the approach LLMs have been tuned for. So they swiped all the tools we use to try and be understood and now they're markets of utmost disinterest and insincerity. Yay!

I think it's because it was trained on a lot of material we write (much of it freely available online, but I suspect it's also because we often write in very particular ways to minimize misunderstandings and unnecessary confrontations. (Surely, if I word it in just the right way, they will get it!)

There is an Ontario County in New York State for that same reason! (Funny enough, it no longer borders the lake, but originally did! As it got broken up into smaller counties, "Ontario" stayed with its county seat, further from shore.)

A reasonable conclusion one might reach after recognizing that "it is not reliably safe for me to render aid to a ship in distress" and "maritime law requires that anyone be able to render aid at a moment's notice because otherwise people die" would be "therefore I should not go out to sea"
