You can make a bad faith argument and I will ignore it. You can make an argument using poor grammar and I will ignore it. When you combine the two, for some reason, I turn into a dog that that heard the doorbell.

NBK is in the pile I keep in the living room on the off chance that I am in the mood for violence so surreal it becomes parody plus RDJr's inexplicable accent.

Without saying your age, what is your favourite movie that came out when you were 20 years old? (It could have been from Clerks or Shallow Grave but NBK is the one that still is in my pile of DVDs.) I am sure that this is a red flag to someone.

“These were not the answers we expected.” Oh, my friend, I’m sorry. I’m willing to bet that you asked the questions incorrectly. Unless you were going blind, and that’s a terribly different mistake.

There was a carousel on the ‘Gram about the nihilism of GenX and how we are part of the problem. Cool. Good luck. Leave me alone. I’m going to put my headphones on and listen to Talk Talk. But seriously, this generational warfare is irritating at the very least.

Finding new to me bands is one of the great joys of my life. Even if the toaster knows everything about me, I’m not entirely sure that it would be able to tell me what I need to hear on a morning like today, for example. youtu.be/n8NLV5999T0?...

One of the things that I love about #music is the discovery/rediscovery aspect of it. That band you hear because they’re on the same label as a band that friends saw at a bar in Brooklyn is a discovery and having that curated by a toaster is a step backwards. youtu.be/aoqyFYQlD5Y?...

I know that the people that I care about won’t see this. But sending something like this to them would scream “but I think I’m one of the good ones“ and that’s part of the problem.

So let me say this, I’ve tried to raise my son to be a protector, to believe in consent, and to be the good man in the room. Any other statement means that I’m centering the story on my experience, and that’s exactly the thing that I shouldn’t be doing.

Of course I’m appalled by the story out of SUNY Ithaca. Yes, there are a lot of people that I love that are really angry and rightfully so. Yes, I know that they believe that my silence is complicity.

And I don't think that a LLM could do my job largely because so many of the people who need my services don't know why they need my services. They just know that they have a workplace culture problem that is costing them money and they want Claude to give them an easy answer, not a 6 month plan.

So when I see the discourse of the nature of "white collar work", what I am actually seeing is people separating into various factions. One group thinks that their knowledge is safe and special and the other just giving up and moving on. My knowledge isn't special but it is specialized.

I remember a librarian years ago telling me that a Google search could do my job (that library, btw, routinely violates wage & hour laws and had to pay a settlement out recently) and now it has shifted to "ChatGPT told me this" which is just a fight I no longer want to have.

I have been interviewing at a couple of different places recently, and part of my reasoning is that pitching clients for our services has become a grind. It's not that the potential clients don't need help, they do. It's that they don't understand the depth of their issues. Insert Tolstoy quote...

There is a new segment challenge happening in my area. The issue with it is that it is in the middle of suburbia with zero mass transit to the area. Do I ride my bike 20 miles (largely on rail trail) to run it or do I say, "nah" and work on my stuff closer to home?

Part of me wants the Mets (or the Yankees) to sign him largely so t7L can make “Nobody Beats The Miz” t-shirts (or the Yankee equivalent of The 7 Line, I guess, I mean, I don’t know if that’s a thing) because that would be fun & retro for fans of a certain age. youtu.be/1y6MUPkDufU?...

There’s an account on the ‘Gram about businesses in small towns & the person behind it thinks that the problems stem from things aside from the businesses themselves. In my experience, small businesses run into capital and real estate issues. It’s that simple. They have money problems.
