And we've landed! Getting settled in Rochester and in the new lab this week.

Excited to share some positive updates: I successfully defended my dissertation, and have accepted a postdoctoral position starting this fall at University of Rochester. I'll be working with Mark Hibbins (@rejectresubmit.bsky.social). A big thank you to everyone who has helped me on this journey!
A photo of me at my dissertation defense. I am standing at a podium in a conference room, in front of the title slide for my talk which reads "Sex in plants: birth, death, and trying to survive in changing climates."

I’m hitting the road a little early, but I wanted to say thank you to all the folks at #Evol2026 for the best Evolution meeting yet! I’m proud to be part of such an incredible scientific community.
Me standing in front of my scientific poster. I’m wearing a black top, orange pants, and am smiling. My poster is a black background with white text, and a big colorful angiosperm phylogeny figure in the center.A beautiful sunset on the lake side of the conference center, from Monday night.

I'm very excited to share a paper from my dissertation has just gone to pre-print! "Traits and hidden states: is self-fertilization associated with rates of diversification across mating and sexual systems?": www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Traits and hidden states: is self-fertilization associated with rates of diversification across mating and sexual systems?
Reproductive biology is a key determinant of fitness. State-dependent speciation-extinction methods (SSEs) are often used to associate traits with patterns of diversification. Previously, SSEs have be...

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #OutForAWalk, any bird captured walking. Here's a Willow Ptarmigan putting its best (feathered) foot forward. Currently they are reddish brown but I'm partial to their winter garb. Chugach State Park #Alaska 🪶

From last week's field trip for class, where my undergrads are learning about plant community ecology: Beechdrops (Epifagus virginiana) and Striped Wintergreen (Chimaphila maculata).

FOR A STUDENT WHO USED AI TO WRITE A PAPER

Now I let it fall back
in the grasses.
I hear you. I know
this life is hard now.
I know your days are precious
on this earth.
But what are you trying
to be free of?
The living? The miraculous
task of it?
Love is for the ones who love the work.

#WithoutNSF I wouldn't have had the opportunity to complete a formative NSF-REU, where I encountered the weird and wonderful Polygala lewtonii (see: my cover image), a mixed-mating plant with below-ground (!) flowers which launched my research in plant reproductive biology and took me to my PhD
