This is what I was referring to -- namely, the quote from his accuser's lawyers: "his actions were not ‘consensual in nature’ with respect to our client." www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

Jimmy Gomez being investigated for 'sexual harassments and assault,' lawyers allege
The statement from the attorneys Wednesday dispute the California Democrat's claims that his interactions with their client were consensual.

Gomez is facing some pretty serious misconduct allegations. I don't think that is what motivated this primary challenge, but it's not terrible for voters to have another option here.

Ballot referenda are the only way red state voters are able to win abortion rights, Medicaid expansion, and minimum wage increases. Yet the relentless abuse of that system in CA -- with voters repeatedly opting themselves out of taxes -- makes it a national laughingstock. bsky.app/profile/calm...

They don't want victory, they don't want an end to violence, they want to endlessly critique violence (and be violent themselves).

But don't you see? To win, actual working class candidate Troy Jackson has to stop listening to all the effete women and gay men in the DC consultant class and instead listen to the ruggedly masculine straight men of the Brooklyn DSA class.

Fair enough. It's looking to be a banner year for both female elected governors (plausible to get to 15 or more, a new record) and Black elected governors (only 3 in history, and 5 could win this year). So it feels like if there were any time for a breakthrough, it would be now.

I am a little baffled why we're letting KLB get outspent when she has a better shot than Stacey Abrams ever did.

I wonder if outrage over the Kirk assassination pulled forward some of the Republican early vote in Virginia in 2025, which might make the same-day comparisons look rosier for Democrats at the start of the EV period this year. bsky.app/profile/djso...

Unlikely but not impossible that the Harris-won seats (NH & MN) could still be competitive in this environment. Either way, time to mobilize.

Super weird that there is no discussion of Hamilton in the article. Marshall’s weaknesses and the political environment wouldn’t be enough to make the race interesting without Hamilton’s strengths!

Nevada: where Dems could plausibly win all four House seats and yet the Governor's race remains a tossup. A truly unique state.

The Becerra misrepresentation wasn’t an anomaly. A check of all 27 Democrats on Erin Reed’s list reveals a pattern: fabricated citations, truncated quotes, erased pro-trans votes, and reckless advice. The guide: www.erininthemorning.com/p/the-guid… 🧵👇

If the meringue objection is around piping/presentation, you can make it in blobs and crumble it into an Eton Mess (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eton_mess). Reduces fussiness considerably, though still requires a low-and-slow bake. Eton Mess otherwise requires only whipped cream and fruit.

I'll confess I'm shocked by this: seeing a respected progressive voice openly argue that it's better to defeat Democrats who have been flaky on trans rights than to secure Democratic control of the US Senate and US House. Unbelievably foolish, short-sighted, self-sabotaging nonsense.

I find this hard to square in that Cook's race ratings don't seem crazy red to me, but they imply that Dems need to win all Solid/Lean/Likely seats and 12 out of 21 tossups. Feels like Dems are favored in aggregate but with a lot of ambiguity in where the breakthroughs will actually happen.

Often, I wonder what it feels like for our weakest leaders -- our Van Drews, Gabbards, Fettermans -- to finally give into their basest selves, to relinquish principle and let resentment wash over them. I imagine it's something like the warm euphoria one experiences just before freezing to death.

Everybody who knows anything about insurance is screaming from the rooftops what a disaster Jane Kim would be as commissioner. Here’s another sfstandard.com/opinion/2026...

Opinion: Jane Kim’s California insurance plan is built on a myth
The candidate for insurance commissioner has campaigned on a platform of smoke and mirrors: big talk, little respect for the facts, and at times outright falsehoods.

Could Sanders have stepped aside for fifty-something Becca Balint in 2024? Sure. Could Sanders have endorsed Sue Minter before October 2016 and potentially prevented Scott from denying Vermont Dems a trifecta for 10 or more years? Sure. But who cares about power when you're building a "movement."

While we're worrying about Bernie-endorsed Fetterman switching parties and handing the Senate to Republicans, don't forget that 84-year-old Sanders represents a state with a Republican governor and no law preventing him from replacing Sanders with a Republican if he dies. bsky.app/profile/poli...

If Sand, Turek, MGP, Moskowitz, or Acton lose, it's because they ran as centrists and failed to inspire voters. But if AES loses in a considerably bluer seat, it's because the centrists sabotaged him. The movement cannot fail, it can only be failed.

The article doesn't talk much about his bizarre media tour after Columbia, where he asserted that most of his classmates were incurious and argued the school should be smaller and more selective. I'm sure that ingratiated him to the crypto megalomaniacs. www.thendobetter.com/arts/2021/6/...

Ideally, yes, but there have been a relatively large number of bullet ballots cast for third- and fourth-ranked candidates the last few cycles. Dahlstrom dropping out last cycle almost certainly helped Begich defeat Peltola.

Realistically, only one of those races was ever going to be won by a Dem, and primary voters made the more competitive choice.
