Managed to find myself at the (official) opening of a new bar (Bok) at the top end of Rue de Flandres, thanks to Martijn. Not fantastically beery but a nice wee place. And they know how to pour Zinnebir correctly!

The genuinely magnificent Pivo 🇨🇿 bars in Malmö 🇸🇪 are coming to Copenhagen 🇩🇰 with the opening later this month! Not often we get to be gushing about what are kinda theme bars, but they really are *that* good. Better than a lot of Czech pubs. 🍻

The Black Horse, Otley 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2nd visit. More like it. Kirkstall Brewery owned revived hotel grandeur with large courtyard I hadn't previously spied. 15% cheaper than the brewery tap. Tells you all you need to know about modern breweries. Despite pics, quite lively inside 🍻👍

Three Swords, Guiseley 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1st visit. Beautiful tiled wall by the entrance. Ex-butchers? Other than that and usual pretty Kirkstall breweriana, my god, it's death. Some spaces just don't work. Vertical drinks lockout on tap. Midweek food and a beer deal is £18. In Guiseley? Good luck with that. 👎

The Staff of Life, Lydgate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1st visit. I regret not visiting sooner! Homemade food worth the prices! Amazing beef brisket pie, great service. Super characterful interior, especially that vaulted alcove. Ales from Eagles Crag & Vocation. Casual space at the bar. Top tier venue west of Todmorden 🍻👍

The Glen View, Cornholme 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1st visit. Technically a hamlet called Portsmouth but avoiding confusion! Trad, unspoilt village pub nw of Todmorden where they've kept the bar room social and unfoody. Easy & casual. 2 cask lines, Tetley & local ale for £3.90. Great for hikes👍🍻

You often hear of fires, insurance jobs etc, but in Prague-Libeň 🇨🇿 they are deliberately demolishing a historic building in which a pub, U Jarolimků has been operating for 152 years. This will make way for modern apartments. Such an obvious crime ought to be a turning point, but it probably won't be

Counted 35 men to 1 woman. £6.80 for a pint of Spitfire. Yowzer. At least tomorrow is payday. At least it's in great condition. 🍻👍

Nalevna U Leona, Brno 🇨🇿 1st visit. Eluded me for over ten years. A very typical basement dive bar with wonderful brick vaults and opening hours of 7pm-4am more or less says it all. A few people came in shortly after me and we have music. The owner is a character. Zoo certificates on the wall 🤷‍♂️🍻👍

Pivnice Na Stadionu, Znojmo 🇨🇿 2nd visit. By a sports complex, big beer garden with self-service hatch. Stage for gigs. Decent beer selection with Dalešice and Old Cock for 48kc, very reasonable. The rest 45. Not on the tourist trail. 👍🍻

Pivnice u Šneka, Znojmo 🇨🇿 Many visits here. To my mind it belongs in the rarefied category with Blàhovky, Hrocha. Unashamedly causal but also characterful, trad & inimitably Czech: the space just works. Sad fact is most Czech pubs are nowhere near this. It's also a brewpub with multitap beers 🍻👍

Enoteka znojemský vín, Znojmo 🇨🇿 4th visit. St Wenceslas Day in CZ and ☀️! 120 local wines available from machine sampler set in the historic brewery complex (the indebted revival of the brewery closed last year iirc). Stunning valley views. Wonderful. For Western tourists, an *actual* hidden gem🍷👍

Svijanský Šenk, Olomouc 🇨🇿 1st visit. A case of never judge a book my its cover. Presents as a restaurant but has a true pub part by the bar and a large garden. 6 x Svijany beers. The unfiltered Polotmavé 'Fanda' the standout. Fair prices and engaging servers. 👍🍻

Svatováclavské Pivovar, Olomouc 🇨🇿 7th visit. Meeting a friend shortly. Before then Pana Bruna, their tasty Tmavý ležák. Brewpub with 5 regulars lines & seasonal specials. On the city's wonderfully low-key tourist trail but locals are here too. Odd mix of 50s retro, folksy, 1st Republic & Medieval!👍🍻

Stopkova plzeňská Pivnice, Brno 🇨🇿 3rd visit (in 10 years). Saturday moves slow. Most pubs aren't opening until later except central staples like this & Pegas. Besides the Façade, it's typical PU restaurant fare, up to + incl. Weltschmerz-y male servers. Kolkovna beer though! It's hoppy! 🍻

U Zlaté Hrušky, Brno 🇨🇿 1st visit. The Golden Pear. Lost in time neighbourhood pub in Veveří with an ailing tapster and similar regulars. Even the sprightly looking guy who came in wearing cap and started talking to me in English was 62. Bohém from Krušovice disappointing although cheap at 45kc 👍🍻

Slavkovský pivovar, Slavkov U Brna 🇨🇿 1st visit. 30mins 🚂 from Brno to this brewpub. Years ago their beer put me on to the joys of smaller Czech brewers. St Wenceslas Day beer has a long hoppy trail-off. 3 Oktoberfest specials too. Venue is dull and unlikeable though, a glorified canteen. 🍻

Vinoteka U Tři Knižat, Brno 🇨🇿 1st visit. Charming basement winery with seating under vaults. Pleased to find regulars chatting. Burčák season - young wine. Poured from jugs at the bar. 40kc for 0.2l. Extensive by the glass range too. Nice non-corporate operation in one of the city's oldest houses🍷👍

Pivnice U Poutnika, Brno 🇨🇿 Long time fave from way back in 2016. Hybrid of courtyard bar, knajpa and compact beer hall that is no bollocks. Go up, pay, socialise. Like their other pubs you have the filtered and unfiltered Poutník - both of which are gorgeous proud tasty lagers. 🍻👍

Betlém, Brno 🇨🇿 2nd visit. Previously went during the daytime but you can see how the interior improves in autumn and winter. Like being inside a cigar box. Cosy and social. In the Dalešice stable of Brno pubs. In Černa Pole but easy tram access. Tourist free! Apart from me! 👍🍻

U Václava, Brno 🇨🇿 2nd visit. Černá Pole neighbourhood bar. Homage to the likes of Blàhovky. Wainscoting, cream walls and net curtains. Tapster, the Výčepni is almost a God. Around here to be known as a good tapster is to be widely respected around town. Imagine that, Brits 🍻👍

U Krále Jiřího, Brno 🇨🇿 1st visit. The only other Czech pub I've been in with this name (King George?) is in Cheb. U Blàhovky type pubs are super popular in Brno yet this is an unreconstructed version, one you'd find in the 90s. Taps at the entrance, darts left, pub right. PU👍🍻

Hospůdka U Báby, Brno 🇨🇿 1st visit. Out in Černa Pole. Another Dalešice pub! They're taking over Brno. Beer super. Very nice neighbourly feel, plenty of Ahojs to new visitors! Dog themed decor. Light & bright sadly, but the compact interior is really effective, cosy and social - a true hospoda. 👍🍻
