Admirable clarity @science.org
The Trump administration hates academic science funding, full stop. They hate where that money goes, and they hate who it goes to. They want to keep all that money for themselves, to hand out to favored cronies who can help them get elected and to steer yet more money and more power back into their hands.

That’s it. That’s the story

This is an enlightening read on how industry funding can shape the direction of science, both subtly and less so. The “Carbon Wedges” paper certainly influenced how I viewed climate mitigation strategies as a college student. Its ripple effects in the policy arena are unquantifiable but profound.

Jorge wrote the (text)book on ocean biogeochemistry. But even more importantly, he was a mentor to so many. I changed my major and career plans after a summer spent in his group, around his gentle curiosity. He taught me that science is inseparable from the people who do it. I’ll miss him greatly.

Traffic enforcement in the US has been scrutinized in recent years (and rightly so!). But getting it right matters for safety, and bike/walk advocates should be shaping the conversation. Proud to have contributed to this new resource by @visionzeronet.bsky.social that sets a clear path forward.

I'm impressed by the bike infrastructure in Seattle (I cycled 18 miles of it). Thanks to @sneakypeteiii.bsky.social for lending me a bike and guiding us, and @mtyka.bsky.social and @ethan2sea.bsky.social for coming along.
A group of four cyclists is on an empty, paved area. The foreground features a person wearing a yellow and gray helmet, with a slight smile. In the background, three cyclists are riding. One rider is wearing a red shirt and is giving a peace sign.A two way bike lane, with cyclists riding. There are parked cars on the right, and pedestrians on the sidewalk. The backdrop features urban buildings and traffic signals under a cloudy sky. Bike lane markings and directional arrows are visible.
