In my (very subjective) view, OA discussions in the NL are not waning, quite the opposite. There are real efforts here, connected to both culture and societal connection. Just to say, there is still a chance!

I was about to buy Sherry Turkle's Artificial Intimacy (looks so great), but then I noticed they added a Jonathan Haidt quote on the cover (!?) Uuuuuggh.

"Many scientific fields are already drowning in plausible-seeming but unverified papers generated with significant help from a large language model. What’s slop and what’s not? Is there an actual gem amid the gazillion new hypotheses? It’s becoming increasingly impossible to tell."

Shy away from em-dashes because of genAI? I've always used em-dashes in my writing. Fuck it. I'm doubling down and increasing the number of em-dashes I use in my writing.

Can't wait to be in Glasgow next week for the #SMSociety2026! Besides being in the organizing committee (with awesome people ⬇️), I will be presenting my work on discursive violence amid "good vibes" digital cultures.

Last Sunday, Colombia elected Abelardo de la Espriella, a figure with a documented history of political, gendered, and animal violence. So how does someone with that record win? His campaign didn't deny the violence. It convinced people it didn't matter. esteban-morales.com/blog/look-at...
