Abstract
Data centers of cloud providers hold millions of processor cores, exabytes of storage, and petabytes of network band-width. Research shows that in 2019, data centers consumed more than 2% of global electricity production, where 50% of consumption targeted for cooling infrastructures. While the most effective solution for thermal distribution is liquid cool-ing, technical challenges and complexities make it expensive.
We suggest using living spiders as cooling devices for data centers. A prior work shows that spider silk has high thermal conductivity, close to that of copper: the second-best metallic conductor. Spiders not only generate spider silk but maintain it. Recruiting spiders for the job requires no more than inserting bugs to the data center for the spiders to catch. This solution is effective, self-sustaining, and environment-friendly, but requires solving a number of non-trivial technical and zoological challenges on the way to make it practical.

Doing your job vs doing your work
If you're not sure of the difference, you're probably just doing your job. Perhaps, if you're fortunate, your job is in sync with your work. But most of the time, our work is something we have to fight for. It's not something we're given, or apply for. It's what we choose to do. The change we seek to make, the people we seek to serve, the decisions we insist on being responsible for. Doing our work is a calling. Doing our job is an offer to follow someone else's instructions.

Happy Caturday 🐾🤍
A fluffy black cat sits cross-legged in a meditation pose with its eyes closed against a pink and purple watercolor background. The cat says: “Some things only arrive when they’re meant to and there’s no use exhausting ourselves over what was never ours to control. I stopped chasing the red dot and I’ve never been more at peace.”

One of the more misogynistic takes currently trending in the AI policy space is "women use less AI than men because they have less tech literacy" Ok but have you considered that women use less AI than men because we have more tech literacy?

Greyscale cartoon of a woman hoisting her bosom up to allow a fan to cool underneath. This is potentially the stupidest thing I've ever drawn, in a crowded field.

Warm weather PSA 📣
Cartoon titled "How To Stay Cool In The Heat". First image: a drawing of a bottle and glass of water with the caption "Drink lots of fluids". Second image: drawing of the sun with an X through it with the caption "Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day". Third image: a woman holding a cocktail and her phone swinging nipple tassles around to create a cool breeze. Breasting boobily, if you will. I am 35 years old.

Oh my good lord, I'm wilting Screenshot from the @metoffice.gov.uk - and I disagree with the line "feels like 29" - no it doesn't - it feels like I'm melting in my office!
Screenshot of the Met Office forecast for my area in the UK from the next hour (29 degrees), Today topping out at 30, Tuesday is 31 degrees, Wednesday dropping to 27, Thursday dropping to 21, same as Friday and Saturday, with Sunday being a far more reasonable 19 degrees.

New macOS update stopped my Stream Deck from working when plugged into my external monitor. Moved it to the 'bridge' and it's working fine. Phew, that was nearly a crisis! I only have client time zones showing on it, but I look at it multiple times per hour to see *when* everyone is!

I'm currently rocking a cold, wet face cloth on the back of my neck (flannel to my UK friends), to try and keep cool in the office. I'm working today 12-6, dinner 6-7 (I'm thinking toast), then 7-10, so I need to try and regulate my temperature as much as possible to be able to work and not melt!

For all my US friends, is "frunk" an actual word, used by actual people? As in the name for the trunk in the front of the car. I just heard this for the first time and it's fast becoming my new favorite word!

Head has been shaved (grade 10). Hair has been colored. Dry hair has been waxed, spiked and styled. This current UK heatwave might only be here for a week, but it's seriously too much to hope that running hot due to perimenopause will only last that long!

If you use the clapping hands emoji between every word for emphasis, screen reader users will hear "clapping hands" after each word. This is true for any emoji. This will be distracting, annoying, and disorienting. The message you're trying to emphasize will likely be lost.
