If you never thought you'd ever hear a group of Anything Muppets from SESAME STREET sing the Blood, Sweat & Tears song "Spinning Wheel", well, never say never... (Oh, and keep an eye on the puff of smoke, knowing that it's coordinated between a performer & a separate cued smoke mechanism)

This was one of my favorite things to teach but I eventually restricted it to my women's history class because teaching it in US II was just too exhausting. It's always good to revisit.

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

It may be easier to debate these issues when they aren't personal to you, but just because it's easier doesn't mean it's good to do it. There's a way to do it without giving ground so maybe that's what's always happening but I dunno.

That being said, I don't know that it's super helpful for the relatively inviolable folks to sit down and have protracted conversations with those who'd wish the rest of us harm. There's a point where you're just validating the idea that the lives of other people are something to be debated.

Erin Grievances @erinbartram.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I think if you can't immediately think of a right you've lost or gained because of your identity in the past couple of decades you don't get to tell others they should simply sit down for conversations with people who disagree with them.

I've been thinking about the line from the Port Huron Statement: "Our work is guided by the sense that we may be the last generation in the experiment with living." This symposium is ostensibly about creative writing but it's really about how we keep writing/reading/thinking.

This day-long symposium will explore the philosophical, ethical, and legal aspects of generative Al and human creativity, the experiences of established and aspiring authors and editors in this critical moment, and the ways generative Al is reshaping how we read, engage with, and teach the literary arts. Someone like @mattseybold.bsky.social probably knows the answer to this--were there personnel changes that fostered this shift (because it definitely wasn't always this bad) or were the built-in incentives of the publication itself always going to move things in this direction as the vibes shifted?
