LLMs could be the end of the “shut up and calculate” approach to fundamental physics. (Not that Kyle is part of that.) When the computer is better at calculating than you are, you might be forced to actually think about things.

What we learned today was simple. Putin is terrified of the Ukrainian air campaign against Russian refineries and oil infrastructure, and Trump (as always wants to help him). Ukraine knows now what is must do.

I suspect many people don’t appreciate how many mathematical proofs have never been reliably checked. There are famous examples where only one person understood a proof and that person died. The program of formalizing mathematical knowledge is an important one.

I think the general consensus of people around the world is that Americans can get fooled by a con man once, but to return him to power a 2nd time after having seen his corruption, incompetence, ignorance, & buffoonery, the problem isn’t just Trump it’s the American people.

The idea of ‘biological agency’ — that life devises its own goals and behaves accordingly — complicates our understanding of what it means to be alive. But does it serve a scientific purpose?

Giant cherry tree on a rainy day in Japan. Photography by Akihiko Fukuyama
A vertical landscape photograph by Akihiko Fukuyama captures the serene, evocative grandeur of a giant cherry tree on a rainy day in rural Japan. The composition presents a masterful study in seasonal aesthetics and natural scale, beautifully channeling the quiet, atmospheric melancholy of a misty spring morning. The damp, filtered light of the overcast sky softens the entire palette, casting a tranquil mood over an ancient, sacred space where nature and traditional architecture seamlessly coexist.

The upper portion of the frame is dominated by the monumental presence of the ancient sakura (cherry blossom) tree. Its massive, thick timber trunk rises majestically from the earth, splitting into powerful, moss-covered branches that support an expansive, cloud-like canopy of delicate pink and white blossoms. The vibrant, ethereal mist of pink flowers stands out in high contrast against the deep greens and muted grays of the dense forest rising up the hillside behind it. To the lower left, another smaller cherry tree in full bloom echoes this soft floral canopy, further enhancing the seasonal depth of the landscape.

Nestled beneath the giant tree in the lower right foreground are weathered, traditional wooden structures belonging to a rustic shrine or temple compound. The building on the right features a gracefully curved, sweeping gabled roof covered in aged, moss-tinted shingles and topped with traditional ridge ornaments, while an open-sided wooden pavilion rests adjacent to it on small stone pillars. Balancing the composition in the lower left corner, a lone figure holding a soft pink umbrella walks along a narrow pathway.

To fall into a stupor of self-absorption, as Trump has done, is to flee from reality. Few wars are worth fighting; those that are fought can only be won in the world, and not within the tortured confines of estranged minds.

Got a new Dell Laptop at work & it comes with a COPILOT KEY next to the right Alt button. I thought OK, I can surely disable this key or remap it to Ctrl. Oh my friends, no. I was foolish. Searching for help came across this, Dell agents aren't even allowed to discuss remapping the copilot key.
The new keyboard layout using the Microsoft Copilot key are the standard going forward for all models released in
2024 and after.

Dell policy prohibits Dell support agents from discussing remapping the Microsoft Copilot key.

This Dell article states in blue =

Note: Beginning in spring 2024, new Windows 11 devices ship with a new keyboard layout and a dedicated key to launch
Microsoft Copilot in Windows. The key replaces the menu key next to the right Alt key. The key position can vary on
some regional layouts.

Please see this FAQ for the same details. Microsoft requires the CoPilot key as part of their Al PC initiative.

We wait for trains. We wait for answers. The trains come. The answers never will.
Photo by Andrea De Santis. A London Underground train speeds into a station, its headlights glowing in the tunnel's dim light. Motion blur captures the energy of arrival. A lone commuter stands near the platform edge, holding an orange tote bag, still amidst the rush. The architecture curves above in sleek lines, echoing the rhythm of transit and time.
