Also the LNP have been climate crisis deniers for this entire century. Your “sensible centre” isn’t worth shit.

When we see the excess deaths from record-breaking temperatures we shouldn't be shy in saying those journalists who knowingly lied and obfuscated about climate change until there was nothing we could do about it have blood on their hands the same way Nazi propagandists did.

Things won't change until the pro fossil propaganda purveyors and complicit decision makers fear criminal responsibility for their crimes against humanity and the planet.

To motivate behaviour change today, they need to be afraid of legal consequences for corruption, criminal negligence and crimes against humanity. Confiscation of proceeds of crime needs to be intergenerational.

Imagine if the media took the words of climate scientists as seriously as it does that rando from Anthropic… Air pollution and climate change from fossil fuel use are literally killing millions of people every year, but sure, let’s focus on the idiocy that “AI is going to kill everyone in 10”.

Israel is “warning” Australia not to sanction illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank on Palestinian land. What will they do? Stop selling us weapons tested in a genocide? Let’s start there.

My goal is simply to nudge those with very legitimate concerns about the roll out of this tech not to be in denial of its capabilities. We cannot mitigate risks d when we don't understand them. Nor can we change others without understanding their motivations.

Agree LLMs aren't brains. My point is regarding reasoning. There is no barrier to LLMs being able to reason as well as a human, if not better as they evolve much faster. They're not intrinsically emotional but can emulate emotions (with some sad folk developing attachments!)

Erich Schulz @erichbschulz.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
That said, passing the Turing test shows that LLMs can now emulate a human in a way that can no longer be reliably distinguished.

Erich Schulz @erichbschulz.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Do you ... always start a convo with an insult? I didn't say LLMs *are* human with all human failings, biases, fears, and desires. LLMs come with their own set of failings and biases. They're not afraid and have no desires, just a preprogrammed tendency to seek specific objectives.

Well... I guess I assumed you are intelligent and would update your views based on evidence, or at worst be able to engage in conversation that didn't degenerate into implied ad hominems.

Erich Schulz @erichbschulz.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Having studied the human brain more than most, there's nothing inherently different between an LLM and a brain. The biggest difference is we have more control over a LLM (although it's now becoming obvious how the control is not absolute).

Blue Sky seems to be a super insulated bubble where folk comfort each other by agreeing that "AI is a fake scam perpetrated by tech bros".

Erich Schulz @erichbschulz.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I have a concern that the denial of what LLMs are capable of will interfere with attempts to adapt and mitigate the the damage arising from what appears to be inevitable and rapid change.

Happy to be educated! I'm pretty clear on the impact of low oxygen on the brain but I'm not really across what people get up recreationally. If we're saying "it's just too dangerous, don't risk it," I am happy to pass that info on to the flock of weans I eat with. I just missed the backstory.

People (politicians) need to go to jail. We live in an era of rampant criminal negligence (at best) and/or corruption. If start with Tony Abbott, but every PM since should be answering charges.

Building healthy habits is important because small, everyday behaviors can have a compounding effect on your health over time. And learning how to make lifestyle changes now will come in handy when life gets busy or if health concerns crop up.

We got here because of deliberate distortion of truth motivated by personal gain. It's corruption and criminal negligence. I fear we'll only change direction when those responsible begin to fear the incarceration they deserve.
