I suspect Alito thinks he can make it until the next time there's a GOP president and GOP senate. He might well be right! Of course someone with lifetime tenure in a great job is motivated to think that way—as was RBG.

With Talarico now the slight favorite in the race, national Republicans have flooded Texas' airwaves with commercials to save Paxton's flagging campaign. That makes sense. Any Texan who has turned on the TV in the past few weeks already knows that Talarico is "for they/them" and seen the ad where a Latino boy gets hit with a Transgenderification Beam and turns into a beautiful woman. But much of the nation was confused about why they, non-Texans, were seeing this stuff while trying to watch the Philadelphia Eagles-Los Angeles Rams game on Sunday.

Funny I thought he would retire in 2025 because his wife had made some comments during the flag kerfuffle that suggested to me that she was looking forward to it.

People in top jobs don't like retiring if they can avoid it! And it would look weak to hurriedly retire like this. But most importantly he just said he won't do it -- see what AMK quote-posted.

You think he would quit in the lame duck if Ds win the Senate? I took the other side of that bet with @stevenmazie.bsky.social. Thirteen black and white cookies are at stake.

Tillis voted for Hegseth even though it was eminently clear that Hegseth was out of his depth. (Noem, at least, was a governor and former member of Congress.) Tillis now says he regrets voting for Hegseth, but he obviously knew better at the time and wimped out for political reasons.

Once upon a time, "Trump is getting bad advice" might have been a plausible tack for a Republican trying to nudge Trump without incurring his wrath. But it's a bit late for that—especially for Tillis. It's right there in the title of his book!

This is what he said. He says “small price to pay” twice. The first time is clearly about gas prices, which suggests that the second one as well. Obviously he is not speaking coherently but I believe that is what he meant.👇👇

This is being passed around as a total misrepresentation of what he said. Trump was saying - as he often does - that costs for Americans are a small price to pay for preventing Iran from getting nuclear missiles. He was saying ‘let them take out LA or SD’ as an example of what could happen then…

Yeah. Also... We can't know. But if another 2.3M Dems in CA, NY, IL, etc. had voted for Harris? No change in the EC but there's a decent chance that a lot of the compliant behavior from the media, universities, law firms, etc. doesn't happen...and *maybe* Hegseth et al. don't get confirmed.

Area Clock Man Still At It
Acyn « @Acyn.7m
Q: Why did you post Tom Cotton's phone number?
Trump: We want to get away from this ridiculous custom of turning your clocks back, forward, being late for dinner, being late for very important meetings. Tom Cotton is holding it. He shouldn't be holding itAcyn
@Acyn • 5m
Trump: You know who wants it? Professional sports and amateurs that would like to play tennis at night, would like to play golf a little bit without having to run home after 14 holes. People don't want to have to change their clocks. It's a lot of work for a lot of people. They're running around for two days changing all the clocks in their house
Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas, a state that I won by 35 or 40 points. He's got to do itAcyn
@Acyn•3m
Trump: I'll give you an example: right now we're sitting out here-it's light, it's nice. If you come down here and In another 3 weeks. It will be dark.
Who wants it?Acyn «@Acyn.2m
Trump: People don't want to have to go around changing clocks. I had the same thing six months ago, we're changing clocks. Nobody changed the clocks and everybody's late. It discombobulates everybody

Dems worried last year that this delayed implementation of the deep Medicaid cuts in the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' would defang their attacks on the campaign trail, leaving voters unmoved by the message that a health care apocalypse was just around the corner. But for many, it has already arrived.
politico.com
Republicans tried to punt health care cuts until after the midterms. It didn’t work.
While most GOP-enacted cuts to Medicaid and other safety net programs won’t happen until 2027, Democrats are speaking to the voters already feeling the squeeze.

No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don't want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I'll always put Arkansas first.
