I tend to judge individual pieces on their merits. That Times one is pretty scurrilous (that's kinda par for the course with sketchwriters of course) but it is pretty well-crafted

"Killing Hasan in full public view would make him a martyr on a bigger scale than any suicide attack ever could: there would be footage of the US state killing him, available for use by any recruiter, at any time. To call it a gift to the USA’s enemies would be the understatement of the century."

A year on from Cable Street, #OnThisDay 1937, here's the Blackshirt political cartoon take on protests against their marches in the East End of London. From Mosley's newspaper, 'Action'

Yeah, I thought that too. One of my FB pal's came up with the notion of "tit-whisperer" earlier on which deserves some credit. Poor old ZP has turned himself into a figure of moral opprobrium and Carry On mockery at the same time. Quite the achievement.

Still has some very good individual journos though. Pretty much all major newspapers have dropped in quality in last 20 years. I stopped buying the Guardian over a decade ago cos it got too embarrassing. Guardian still has some excellent individual journos on it mind you.

Oof. That’s a pretty brutal opening paragraph in the Times sketch on Polanski and the Holborn and St Pancras by-election…

Well used at the end of Michael Mann's 'Manhunter'. Which makes me like the Simpsons version all the more.

Contrast the pseudo-intellectualism on show with someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Jonathan Judaken, writing in "Patterns of Prejudice" journal in 2008. Does no-one who claims to be "ant-racist" in the Green Party know any of this stuff? Embarrassing. And shameful.

This text on defining "semites" (itself a weirdly 19th century racialist enterprise) was attached to the original draft of the Zionism is Racism resolution passed by the Green Party. It reveals the Greens to be both racist and dishonest.

Was once in a bar in small town Kansas and some old fella walked in. Whole place went quiet like in a Western movie. I whispered to the guy next to me: “Who’s that?” He replies: “That’s Walter. He’s the town Democrat”

Sir John Major, normally someone I consider broadly sane, on the death of Jeffrey Archer: “We have lost a man who lived one of the most remarkable lives of our age" Fucker’s clearly confused him with Jofra Archer. Or maybe Mani from the Stone Roses.

2. When they ran a fundraising advert the headline was “Join our anti-Zionist campaign”. Not “Join our campaign to defend Palestinian rights”. Interesting difference of priorities.

1. Whenever Israel did something nasty, they couldn’t simply condemn it on its own terms. It had to be a “pogrom”, a “final solution”, or a “Holocaust”. Always the appropriation of language connected to Jewish suffering.
