One of the things that impressed me about Zack Polanski was that he seemed to want to actually change things (pretty sure this is still his position). Performative sloganeering is something I associate with uni campus political groups. It has a place, but not in national politics. It killed Yorp.

OTOH we might as well use what we have, so in that sense the new policy seems sensible. We need much faster action elsewhere, too. Rapid decarbonisation, adaptation, resilience building. Far, far more costly to delay. It should be treated as a national security emergency.

I saw a video the other day about the decommissioning of Hinkley B (whilst C is still under construction, over budget and years late). It will take nearly a century. And of course the waste will be dangerous for much longer. Future humans will recognise it as an expensive folly. If we survive.

The other thing I've noticed is a gung-ho "bring it on" attitude amongst some supporters of the ZIR motion, in relation to widespread attacks and criticism. What do I know? But it does seem to me that spoiling for a fight with the RW media and all other parties on this issue is... naive at best.

It's not hard to spot, every time she speaks. I don't know if it's a peculiarly British thing, but I do think there's an unjustified deference to well-spoken people in general and well-spoken people with a PhD in particular. Stoopid class system.

"successful but not rich" = people who earn £100,000+? Statistically, that's a tiny cohort. Minuscule. So those voters won't win them an election. And for the rest, the idea that people earning six figures aren't rich is going to seem... as offensive as it sounds.

(Side note: moving home on your own is HARD. Physically, emotionally, mentally and in practical terms. Back when I was a student and could fit all my possessions in a small hatchback it didn't matter much. But three removal lorries is a different matter. Yes, I'm aware of my privilege 😑)
