When I first started out as a young attorney, I did criminal law; I will never forget one of the interviews of a LEO at the time, who proudly said "We're here to enforce the law, not obey it."

The #SOTU2026 highlight was undoubtedly the Medal of Honor awarded to CW5 Eric Slover. I fortunately came across a remarkable earlier story of Slover's heroism and courage under fire, reported over a decade ago by Jay Price. A real American hero.

Unfortunately, I don't know who to credit for this photo, but it says it all.
A young Native American wearing face paint and a black T-Shirt saying: No One Is ILLEGAL on Stolen Land. There is an upside down American flag underneath the words, ILLEGAL, indicating distress.

This is Zephyr. He is a professionally trained bed bug detector. When he recognizes the scent of live bed bugs, he gives an alert by sitting and smiling exuberantly at his handler. We're pretty sure no one has ever been more excited to find bed bugs in their life. 13/10 (TT: emmercrew)

"Purple Sky*" Oct 2020 *I happened to wake up before sunrise that morning and notice the pink/purple colors dominating everything else. I've never seen the sky like this before or afterwards.
View of a deck walkway to the beach early in the morning. The sky is all purple, red, pink and blue.

I want to share this with you because this is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen: this is Carol of The Bells - we call it Shchedryk - performed by Ukrainian military and a veteran in Kyiv main railway station . But I must warn you: it will break your heart. And then, it will heal it again.

I live in a college town with little to no decent biking infrastructure, but see lots of analogue bikes, cargo bikes and e-bikes.Very few of the Vroom-Vroom toys. e-cargo bike are used to transport kids, other stuff frequently, and e-bikes used for commuting, as well as regular bikes.

What that says is those people aren't very observant. Time moves on, including economic levels. Times were very different then, and the changes don't make poverty any less detrimental.

"Another Sunday Morning Coffee Ride" Only 8 miles, but there were hills. Nice to get a morning ride in, especially for coffee. #bikesky
Picture of an iced latté in a plastic cup on a black grated outdoor table, behind the coffee you can make out a pair of biking gloves - black and florescent yellow. Two bikes parked by shrubbery facing head-on: the first is dark blue with a helmet hanging from the handlebars; bike two is further back, a light blue, but mostly excluded by the shrubbery, also, a helmet hanging from the handlebars. In the background are some green trees. There is a cement siding where the bikes are parked.

What a lovely place. Walked there from Whitby many, many years ago.
Picture of the North Sea from Robin Hoods Bay. In the foreground is a paved walk that curves down to the ocean. On the right about is part of the town. In the distance you can see the end of the bay. The ocean in the bay has small white waves; there are white clouds in the light blue sky. Later afternoon with some dark shadows on the right side of the pic.

It must be great to live where there's biking infrastructure that Class 3 e-bikes and throttles cause problems. Where I live, you're competing with large SUVs/pickups that routinely drive near 40 mph in a 25 mph residential zone and >45 mph on 4-lane 35 mph zone, with no bike lanes.

"Sunday Morning Coffee" Nothing like a Sunday morning ride for coffee before it gets hotter with high humidity. #bikesky
Picture of two blue e-bikes next to a bike stand in the shade of building. The bikes are on the cement sidewalk with commercial buildings and trees in the distance. There is a blue sky with white clouds at the top, and the outline of a beige building at the top left.Picture of an iced latte in a plastic cup with a green straw out of the top. It sits on a black, wrought iron table. Florescent biking gloves are in the background on the right side, and although out of focus, the color is noticeable.

I'm way past the age where I look good in Spandex biking shorts, but I still ride in them (even on an e-bike) because they don't ride up and the butt padding is great. Folks should ride in what they feel comfortable with. The more people riding, the better.

I'd agree. Many years ago, when I first moved to where I live, I rode frequently, some years later the traffic got so dangerous, I stopped. Recently started back, and I have a much greater appreciation for safety and bike rides in general now. Age might have something to do with it too. :P
