We see a raft of open source versions of small biz software, some built on atproto. Like software for restaurants, retail, hair salons, construction, etc. Businesses will create software to meet their needs and openly share it.

⏺ I added .env to .gitignore and committed it as 33f20471 ("Ignore local environment files"). Git now ignores the file, so the exe.dev API key can't be committed by accident.

The commit is on a new branch, ignore-local-env, not on main, because I branch before committing to a main branch. Your history commits straight to main, so you'll probably want to fast-forward it:

git switch main && git merge --ff-only ignore-local-env

docs/remote-execution-plan.md is still uncommitted. It's in the working tree and will stay there when you switch back to main.

I like having a universal blurb in my repo prompts explicitly forbidding the creation of repository procedures, processes, or bureaucracy. Once you allow a little bit of this in, it seems to pretty quickly pick up speed.

I think the 7fig thing only lasts for a decade at most though. Once the first banking and telco and finance apps get created with ai assistance the digital exhaust will expose these secrets. And I’ve seen enough of these apps up close to know there’s not that much magic to em.

This is true but it also seems like a very hard thing to hire/be hired for rn. I’d love to do this kind of work but all the listings I’ve seen want years of exp optimizing cache fill and batching on nvls and what even are the paths to get there? Like you said most companies are skipping this.

I think there are successors, though. That tends to be the way people iterate on vibed software: LLMs are bad at fixing in place, so take the lessons and ideas that worked for v1 and rewrite from scratch in v2 (3 4 5…) It’s a new sdlc à la “the prompt is the program”

Ouch there is a story of heartbreak here. Having to rip the masters through Roxio because you don't have the hardware to go direct, and then losing the Digi8s before the BluRay pressing. It's hard enough being a filmmaker without all that.

I don’t think the biggest driver is how existing companies do labor continuity. It’s that hypothetical new firms in the AI age may have much less junior labor, and that has second-order effects on existing firms looking to be competitive and attractive to investors.
