I'm concerned about the capture of news by extremists and curious about regulatory strategies for addressing that problem. Can you share any leads?

Rationalism's biggest ideas—EA, alignment, and most AI scenarios—depend on existence proof through wild extrapolations. But absurdity is a bug not a feature. enfascination.com/weblog/post/...

Elizabeth, I'm open to being wrong. You're being a jerk. Legal guidance on Native Advertising and Sponsored Content gives examples www.upcounsel.com/advertising-... FCC repealed Fairness Doctrine, but could restore it en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairnes... Do these violate the 1st amendment?

Magazines have clear labels for opinion and advertisement, by law, because of the potential for confusion. And the FCC recognize news as a special category because of the importance of fairness and balance.

Real question: Why can't we have "OPINION" watermarks on non-news news channel programming? Last I checked, Fox is down to 1 hour a day of traditional broadcast news. It's at the 11PM-midnight slot. CNN is better: only 7/24 hours a day. What happened to showing news on the news?

Most people associate "anarchism" with just one school: "revolutionary anarchism". It's got it's place in history, and today, but I'm very excited to see they other threads develop, especially mutualist anarchism.

A lot of hard questions becomes easy once you adopt it. One example, the argument about how much an org's "means" should reflect its "ends", is easily settled on practical rather than theoretical grounds when how when run today is the training for how we'll run tomorrow.

The results of our experiment were wild. But it turned out our subjects didn't understand the experiment. But after fixing that, the results stayed the same: weird. And I'm proud to say that I've been at this long enough that I predicted it: comprehension somehow doesn't matter sometimes.

Apparently the ditto mark is one of the oldest typographical conventions, going back nearly 3000 years to Assyrian’s cuneiform, which also used two vertical marks. The word “ditto”, however is Tuscan for “said” (a past tense of “dire”)

1/ Russian courts currently acquit 0.24% of defendants. The Russian government evidently believes this is too high, and is planning to effectively eliminate jury trials, which provide most of the acquittals. Lawyers are calling it "the death of the jury system." ⬇️

When I was a behavioral scientist at Disney I interacted with the Consumer Insights team, who surveyed the public on new products. What really impressed me about them was whatever the C-suite wanted to do, this team could always prove the fans were just begging for it. "Please Disney! More ads!"
