Two weeks since switching out of Chrome "The Browser That Likes To Watch". I went to Brave, but could have been Zen. I'm surprised that the time saved is that high (0.5 hr), that the bandwidth saved is that low (0.25GB), and I'm astonished at the number of ads and trackers blocked (28K).

Apparently the ditto mark is one of the oldest typographical conventions, going back nearly 3000 years to Assyrian’s cuneiform, which also used two vertical marks. The word “ditto”, however is Tuscan for “said” (a past tense of “dire”)

On the other hand, impossible knots to communicate unity and interdependence, sometimes by the same groups.

This informs how different groups approach complexity: as something to approach with honor, respect, and care, or something waiting for a bold leader to cut through. For example, when fascists use images of the knot (both Franco and Mussolini) it's always a tangle.

I'm accidentally getting some art criticism as I teach systems thinking. What is the difference between a problem being needlessly complex, and being honorably complex? Historical depictions of the Gordian knot vary in whether it's shown as symmetric or a tangle.

Early Europeans were uniquely warlike: "From 0CE – 1600CE the continent of Europe experienced 470 different conflicts. Asia experienced 256. Of those 256 conflicts documented, 43 of them involved inhabitants from Europe. Africa, on the other hand, only saw 26 major conflicts erupt in this time. ...

Fascinating to see it, our financial system's open derision for people who care about their communities. This is in the pitch of a private equity housing investor, actually one of the "good ones" that at least frames up the social need for workforce housing. It's shocking the blindness.
As described above, the smaller size of workforce rental apartment buildings in greater Los Angeles (90% are under 50 units), mean that these assets tend to be owned by smaller unsophisticated “mom and pop” investors. Many have been held by families for decades if not generations, and during that time many of these owners have invested very little in capital improvements as they don’t want to spend the money or lose rent while improvements are going on. Basically, they are satisfied with collecting their current below market rents without interuption. For most long-time owners, maintaining the status quo (e.g., low unit turnover and vacancy) is their top priority, even at the expense of sacrificing higher potential rents and net operating income.

This mentality creates an abundance of value-added opportunities for investors like Paladin at multiple stages of the investment process.
