Thank you @europarl.europa.eu for 4 resolutions on human rights in Azerbaijan since April 2024, each calling to free political prisoners. A 5th is due this week 🇦🇿 EEAS and Commission accommodate the situation at best; member states enable it via energy deals. Time for accountability ⚖️

Today, a court sentenced Anar Mammadli to 13 years 🇦🇿⚡️ His crime: building Azerbaijan's only independent election watchdog. The Council of Europe gave him its human rights prize in 2014, whilst he served his first sentence for the same work. Since @coe.int leadership is silent. Release him ✌️
Campaign poster in dark navy, teal and pale yellow. A stylised, high-contrast portrait of Anar Mammadli fills the upper two thirds: a man in his forties with short dark hair, rectangular glasses and a moustache, wearing a dark suit jacket, shirt and tie, looking directly at the viewer. The website address www.endrepression-az.org appears in small capitals in the top right corner. Illustration of Lady Justice blindfolded, holding three scales. The left scale is imbalanced, weighted heavily toward "Energy" and "Trade." The right scale tips toward "Human Rights" and "Rule of Law," but is visibly outweighed. The EU flag with yellow stars appears at top left, with an arrow pointing toward the figure. Title reads: "The European Union is Trading Away Principles." The image uses teal and yellow tones to symbolise the EU's prioritisation of economic interests over human rights commitments.
