Formula 1 raced through Baku yesterday, lending its broadcast to a government that holds 328 political prisoners. The perpetrators rule, the enablers pay, the accommodators watch the race. #F1 #AzerbaijanGP 🏁

The political prisoners in Azerbaijan embody Europe's stated values and the principles the Council of Europe has been built on 🇪🇺 To them, silence is deafening. If they stop believing in these institutions, European human rights bodies lose their best advocates and relevance.

Infographic titled “The European Union is Trading Away Principles”.
It shows three stages of Europe’s energy shift.
	1.	“Before 2022: EU reliance on Russian gas” — Arrows go from the Russian flag to icons of gas and oil, then to the EU flag, with text explaining that dependence on Russian fossil fuels created strategic vulnerability.
	2.	“Following start of war on Ukraine: Azerbaijan fills the gap” — Arrows go from the Azerbaijani flag to gas and oil icons, then to the EU flag, describing how the EU increased gas cooperation with Azerbaijan to avoid shortages.
	3.	“Outcome: Even stronger authoritarian fossil fuel dependency” — Russia supplies fossil fuels to Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan supplies fossil fuels to the EU. Arrows form a loop around the Azerbaijani flag, illustrating that Azerbaijan exports more to the EU while importing more from Russia. The text highlights concerns about substitution and long-term vulnerability.
