And like....I dunno, I find that kinda weird? There is literally nothing stopping people from shipping the girls for fun while acknowledging what Uma *is*, but a lot of people seem to turn it into a culture war where you're choosing a side for...going with the creative intent? Am I alone here?

Maybe it's because of how treating women like fictional "objects" plays into narratives with ChanOtaku, but there's def an aversion I see from some people to *acknowledge* Uma's galge nature, in-spite of how it owes so deeply to TokiMemo that Buena's career is a giant love letter to it.

Where the discourse seems rooted in, from how I see it, is that there's a lot of people who moreso dislike the optics at play. Not just the age gap stuff (though that's def part of it), but in how it frames Umamusume around treating the girls as a "database" to be cultivated into Good Wives.

The really important thing is that this isn't "the nasty himejoshi spoiling the hets fun", because Uma doesn't play by that logic! Not only are careers written gender-neutral, but plenty of the girls are clearly targeted to the female players. Both of the official manga have yuri Uma/Trainer pairs!

By that same token, while there *is* a ton of ship fuel for the Umas, that fuel appears to have undergone the Farcille Effect, where people conflate the validity of the reading with the *intentionality* of that reading. Sure, Vodka/Scarlet def comes off as sexual tension...but is that meant so?

Like, let's get the hard facts out of the way - Umamusume is a waifu game. How explicit the text is on that front varies *wildly* girl to girl, but it's far easier to name the girls who aren't written as viable romantic interests on at least some level. This isn't up for debate, it just is.

Umamusume ship discourse is one of those deeply fascinating things to me where the discourse isn't so much predicated on an actual discussion of the text as it is the culture war concerning the idea of waifu gachage and the people who choose to interact with them.

Not to justify harassment, but Trainer/Uma stuff *is* an undeniable part of Umamusume as a game, so it's....odd for an official server to ban it. And the same goes for Pakacord, I'd add.

"Koihime" is a PC-98 ADV made by Silky's in 1995 that was later remade for Windows by Elf in 1999. While the PC-98 version featured sepia-colored BGs & a vertical textbox, the remake rolls with a horizontal textbox, full color BGs, & new char designs. Both have their charms!
