Sooooo hard! My brain and I have always had a very difficult relationship :/

I never do well in group things like this anyway. Never have done. I am too weird, and too autistic. I prefer self-directed learning and never feel like I am on the same wavelength as anyone else. Like Riker said "Some days you get the bear. Some days the bear gets you."

I guess I wanted to say that sometimes, pushing headlong against trauma is not the best thing to do. I need to embed the lesson of today in my brain somehow, and hopefully help someone else who might, as I did, feel they should accept this kind of help, when maybe it isn't the right thing to do.

I realised it was doing more harm than good to put myself through it. I knew all the stuff from the talk already, and it was exhausting keeping myself from having a total meltdown. So many flashbacks. Have decided to not do the rest of the course. Why the hell am I talking about this here?

I knew it would be, because just the thought of going to the hospital has been looming over me for days. But I made a decision many years ago to not let fear stop me from doing anything I want or feel I should do. I was worried that if I didn't go, I'd be giving in to it.

Been a strange day. I went to a session of a post-cancer course and managed to stay until the halfway point before I had to leave. It was in the same place where I got treatment and... well... let's just say that my intense context-specific memory worked against me. It was horrifically triggering.

The cover of They Are Still Here (Mae Nhw Yma O Hyd).

The image is of the sorceror, Gwydion, surrounded by wild animals (wolf, boar, deer) in a Celtic knotwork frame. Gwydion's hat is crowned with antlers. He carries an axe in his right hand and an oak twig in his left.

I read this book (100 years old this year) in preparation for the episode, & can confirm that as well as everything else Emma & Adrian said of it, it is also extremely funny! #Booksky
A passage from the book Laura Willowes, by Sylvia Townsend Warner. The text reads:

for my life, I ran nearly all the way home, and most of them came with me, either inside or out. And when I rushed up the street calling in an exhausted voice for onions, there was Pandora !'

‘I had been invited to tea’, said Pandora rather primly.

'Yes, and I'd forgotten it, and gone out for a walk. Pandora, if I'd had my deserts, you would have scorned me, and left me to perish. Pandora, I shall never forget your magnanimous way of behaving. That was what did it, really. One has to offer marriage to a young woman who has picked dead wasps out of one's armpit.'

Laura had never seen Titus so excited. His face was flushed, his voice was loud, the pupils of his eyes were extraordinarily dilated. But how much of this was due to love and how much to wasps and witchcraft it was impossible to say.

Grade A #AudioBookReview: Preaching to the Choir by Adrian Tchaikovsky
My Review: We’ve seen this story before - or at least we think we have. Scion of wealthy English family decides to take his American girlfriend home to the moldering family pile for a reunion. He’s a bit embarrassed about the staid, fusty traditions his family insists on, but he either loves her enough to let her see where he came from - or is scared enough of his family to need backup to get through the ordeal. Or, most likely, a bit of both. The vast, sprawling mansion, complete with gargoyles watching over everything and seemingly everyone, may not be moldering, but it certainly is a stately family pile.
