The post I linked explains how as his role as the US equivalent of the Children’s laureate, his words carry great weight. Alongside the background of book bans, censorship and shrinking budgets, it is a very unsupportive and untrue thing to say, based on his own snobbery of what he considers ‘good’.

This is indeed a great read below. To add to this - Mac Barnett is speaking from a position of extreme privilege. Yes ideally less books would be published so the market is less saturated, but the rest of us need to be paid more then. Overall, a very callous and harmful thing for him to say.
