I’m in my 40s, I’ve been a journalist for 20 years, and I owe money to my parents. That’s pretty embarrassing! I had to put an engagement ring on a credit card because I don’t have enough money left over to save. And I’m one of the better-paid ones, I don’t know how my coworkers afford food.

Data journalist @bayareadata.press hasn't gotten a raise since 2023 so, after inflation, he's basically taken a 15% pay cut to keep working at EdSource.

Unionized staffers at the nonprofit newsroom voted overwhelmingly this week to authorize a strike, Natalie Korach has learned. The ProPublica Guild represents about 150 journalists, videographers, and other newsroom employees.
