This AM, another attack on clean transportation standards from the WH. Here are 3 ways states can step up: ⏩ Build more houses close to stuff people like. ⏩ Support electric trucks/cars. ⏩ New permanent revenue structures for zero-carbon transit. Illinois did this last year, PA and CA are next.

So this report skips over slogans and talking points and gets straight to the questions lawmakers will need to focus on when a data center developer comes knocking: - what are the risks? - how do i protect my constituents? - how are costs being allocated?

Every hyperscaler proposal raises 3 questions: - Who pays? - Who benefits? - Who bears the consequences if projections prove wrong? The decisions made over the next 12–24mo will determine how costs and risks are allocated for decades to come. We are helping lawmakers navigate this challenge

The question is not whether states will face these financial, environmental, and health risks from hyperscale developments — it is whether lawmakers act before irreversible infrastructure commitments are already made.

Climate disasters continue to destabilize insurance markets & raise costs for families. The climate crisis is an affordability crisis. Thankfully, CO lawmakers funded a new roof fortification program that builds off other successful models. This bill will promote climate resilience & lower premiums.

This is about 10% of California's power sectors emissions. Think about how hard it is to make a grid this size 10% cleaner. That is the amount of work a new fossil plant of this size cancels out. We cannot have new fossil infrastructure if we hope to have a safe climate. There just isn't time.

Tailpipe pollution from cars is the largest source of emissions in the United States – and housing policies that reduce car dependence can go a long way towards addressing it. For example, state and local govt.'s can adopt:
Transit Oriented Development
Eliminate Parking Minimums Missing Middle, Lot Size, and Related Zoning Reforms
Mid-Rise Apartment Zoning Reforms
Building Code Reforms
Local Government Planning and Accountability
Facilitate ADUs
Pre-approved Plans
Condo Liability Reform
SEPA / CEQA Reforms
Manufactured Housing Parity
Model Tree Ordinance
Low Income Weatherization
Energy Labeling
Woodland Urban Interface Code
Form-Based Code

Some 🔥🔥🔥 from @spears.bsky.social on the endangerment finding arson: "Climate leadership isn’t going to come from the demolished halls of the East Wing in Washington, D.C. It is going to come from local leaders who are committed to lowering their constituents’ bills."
“The vast majority of this country’s climate commitments can be met at the state and local levels. There is a clear path forward to building the clean energy economy in America with or without the support of the White House. And that path goes straight through state capitols, county commission meetings, and mayor’s offices across the country.

“Now is the time for climate and clean energy leaders to focus on where we can make the biggest impact. That isn’t going to come from the demolished halls of the East Wing in Washington, D.C. It is going to come from local leaders who are committed to lowering their constituents’ bills. From Virginia to Texas, the clean energy economy is still moving full steam ahead.”
