If you’d asked me to parody how silly and broken legal journalism is, I genuinely don’t think I could have come up with “so the best-known ‘nonpartisan’ Supreme Court outlet is now run by an ex-Trump DOJ flack who had her longtime personal friend Brett Kavanaugh officiate her wedding”

As a Michigander, I think Josh is exactly right. There's no reason for complacency; I am pretty confident this race will be decided by a narrow margin one way or the other. But Abdul can definitely win, and he's working hard to bridge the divisions the bruising primary left among Dems here.

Thanks to @aoc.bsky.social for helping give me (and many others, I imagine) the courage to share my maternal health care story. www.thehandbasket.co/p/miscarriag...
While I’ve gotten through the highest high of being pregnant to the depths of despair in miscarriage, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been publicly walking us through her egg freezing journey. Two distinct processes, to be sure, but both with the spectre of motherhood at their core. It is, in my view, a radical act to so thoroughly demystify an otherwise opaque process; and I do believe her radical transparency helped give me some of the courage to share my experience with you. I’ve rid myself of the cobwebs of shame that I hadn’t even realized had been spun around me.

This is actually the very framing I dislike (besides, obv, anti-choice right wingers). AOC is not "seizing control" of her fertility -- she is making an informed choice about how she wants to treat her body and her fertility right now. When we use the world "control," to talk about our bodies . . .

A few additional highlights from the feds’ Broadview 6 filing: U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros was emailed a transcript of the 10/9 grand jury session in October but says he didn’t review it and problematic conduct was not brought to his attention until late April:
As to the other grand jury issues, the United States Attorney informed the Court that he first
learned of the “vouching” and ex parte conversations in late April 2026.9 Id. at 51-53. The United
States Attorney noted that he moved to dismiss the indictment based on his discovery of the
vouching and ex parte communications because “we wanted to moot whatever had taken place in
the grand jury.” Id. at 51-53, 57-58.
Since that time, the AUSAs on the trial team as well as Experienced AUSA 1 have self-
reported this Court’s comments—and the entirety of this matter—to the Department of Justice’s
Office of Professional Responsibility (“OPR”), which is the component of the Department
responsible for conducting an independent review of allegations of misconduct. 28 C.F.R. § 45.12;
Justice Manual § 1-4.200, et. seq. Moreover, as discussed in detail below, the United States
Attorney conducted a root cause analysis of the underlying issues giving rise to the dismissal of
the indictment and information in this case and has taken numerous remedial steps to help ensure
that the missteps that occurred here do not happen again.
9 The United States Attorney was emailed a copy of the transcript from the October 9, 2025, grand jury
presentation on October 14, 2025, but has no recollection of reviewing the transcript at that time, and is
quite certain he did not review the transcript at that time. The United States Attorney did not receive a copy
of the October 16 or October 23, 2025, transcripts until late April 2026, shortly before the Government
moved to dismiss the indictment. At that time (late April 2026), the United States Attorney reviewed
relevant portions of all three transcripts. Irrespective, no one ever brought the vouching or ex parte issues
to the United States Attorney’s attention until late April 2026, nor was the United States Attorney aware of
the vouching or ex parte issues until late April 2026.

The firm bills itself as a "boutique" firm "known for elite counsel in high-stakes litigation, environmental, regulatory, and corporate matters." None of the lawyers for the firm list immigration law as an area of expertise, per a POLITICO review of the firm's site.

lol I just went back and looked at my substack from December, when Barbara was granted cert, and this was my closing prediction *even as I predicted 7-2,* a less-horrific scenario:
The Court’s decision to grant certiorari in Barbara legitimizes the administration in asking the question at all, normalizing the idea of birthright citizenship as a question as opposed to a foundational piece of our country’s history.9 The Court’s likely eventual preservation of birthright citizenship will allow pundits desperate for evidence that the current moment is not as dire as it is to celebrate a win, gaslighting a public similarly desperate for reassurance. It focuses people’s attention on a legal issue that isn’t really a legal issue at all, no matter how much the Court wants you to believe it might be. Meanwhile, the government will continue grabbing people off the street regardless of citizenship status, blocking pathways to legal immigration, and losing people it detains.
Stay focused, stay angry, and protect your neighbors.
