I just published my article Archaeology as Worldbuilding, an effort that grows out of 20+ years of digital (and analog) archaeological making. Adjacent to recent arguments about storytelling, I broaden our scope to make past worlds & tell stories in community with others. doi.org/10.1017/S095...

Meet Emily Jones, author of new classic, a coming-of-age in prehistory
Emily Jones will be at Macdonald Book Shop (152 E. Elkhorn Ave., Estes Park) Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. She will be signing copies of her debut novel, “Nahia.” Emily Jones has combined her considerable academic expertise (she is a professor of anthropology at the University of New Mexico), her love of reading and writing, her love of animals and the outdoors, and her love of history and prehistory to create a novel that will delight a wide range of readers.

Archaeological fiction is a great way to reach the public—but there are dangers in it too. I wrote an essay about my experiences with this for @sapiens.org: www.sapiens.org/archaeology/... (Am hoping to teach a class on this topic in AY26-27, thoughts very welcome!) #archaeology #fiction

Have you ever read "The Clan of the Cave Bear"? If so, you're one step closer to thinking like a scientist. Anthropologist @emilylenajones.bsky.social explains why for @sapiens.org in this beautiful personal essay on the overlap between #fiction & #science. www.sapiens.org/archaeology/...

MORE: Libraries in several states have received letters which claim to cancel federal IMLS grants. Congress MUST act to restore this funding. Read our full statement: www.ala.org/news/2025/04... Use your voice - call Congress to protect & restore library funding: bit.ly/CallCongressForLibraries
"Withdrawing library grants is a callous move at any time, but downright cruel at a time when it's getting harder for many Americans to make ends meet - most of all, in small and rural communities. The White House may have no qualms about slashing opportunity for jobseekers, students, veterans and families, but Congress has the power to restore support for services their constituencies rely on." - ALA President Cindy Hohl.
