A guide to Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel, a queer, heisty, spicy, sci-fi romance manuscript. Good Heists. Bad Decisions. Great Chemistry. Are you its reader? 😍🌈🥵🌌🚀❤️
The first page of a pitch deck. A neon pink art deco border pulls words out of a romantic starry space background. This border and background repeat over the following images. The title page reads in art deco gold and neon pink: An editor's guide to -- Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel -- A Sci-fi Romance by Ellie Rhymer. Representation Christi Cardenas.Romantic pink and sci-fi neon and stars: Pitch. Good heists. Bad Decisions. Great Chemistry.

Anora is the quick-thinking manager of an illegal casino, fleeing the assassination of her gang's boss with the hyperspace treasure maps thrust into her hands as he died.

Jayro is a mouthy interstellar smuggler from the wrong side of the hyperspace lane with the only ship that can get Anora off Hecate IV before the emperor's relic-hunting space witches close a net around the planet.

The two bad-at-feelings bisexuals try to tamp down simmering, inconvenient attraction as they are forced to work together with the scrappy, tight-knit crew of the Helle Wanderer to survive in the criminal underworld and discover the secret at the end of the dangerous maps.

Their love story is a heist and they're stealing more than each other's hearts.

Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel by Ellie RhymerRomantic neon pink and a starry background: Excerpt. “Those are pre-set…” Jayro warned as Anora toggled a series of switches at the nav computer and began actively moving data streams around the screen.
“Pre-set for scans for //stationary objects//. You pick out your nav programs like you pick out your paint schemes?”
Jayro felt annoyance rising up in him again. The cockpit was his domain. Never mind that he agreed with her about the deco. “It took Fish weeks to get those programs running!”
“Look, unless you want to meet an asteroid face to face, shut the hells up and let me work.” Anora frowned as she watched some data return from the program. “Call engineering.”
“Gladly.” Jayro opened the channel on his wrist communicator.
“Yeah?” Fish’s voice responded.
“The new navigator is having trouble with her—” Jayro broke off as Anora grabbed his forearm and yanked his wrist in front of her own face, causing his chair to whirl towards her.
“What on-boards are your pre-sets accounting for?” she asked into the communicator without a glance at him.
“The hyrdobeacon,” crackled Fish’s reply, “the fore and aft isotrope routers…and the gravitic drive buffer, I think.”
Jayro was frozen as Anora swiped at the nav one-handed. He could feel her warm breath on his palm as she spoke with Fish through his communicator, her hand gripping his forearm almost burning him through his flight jacket. She was close enough to smell the blaster emissions wafting off her, the sharp, citrus scent of the steam bath clinging to her skin. His fingertips were millimeters from her cheek and he wanted to cup her face in his hand and drag her around to look at him with those bright eyes. He wanted to play with the flyaway bit of hair that had missed her ponytail and brush his thumb over her lips until they parted.
What was wrong with him?

HEARTLESS HUNTER X SLAVIC FOURTH WING 🎭 She, a humble servant posing as Duchess, is his executioner-to-be. 🐉 He, the arrogant Dragon Prince, must save a kingdom from the encroaching Ever-Dark. 🖤 Neither anticipated falling for the one destined to be their undoing. #questpit #NA #R #F #DF #Q
A gothic-style book cover titled "Root and Ruin." Centered is a glowing, cyan-blue dragon coiled into a circle, its scales etched with faint, runic symbols. Golden, gnarled roots extend downward from the dragon like branching veins against the pitch-black background. Text at the top reads "Enemies to Lovers," "Fated Mates," and "Fake Identity," with "An Agent’s Guide" in the top right. Subtitle reads "80k • NA Slavic Romantasy," and the bottom logline says, "She is sent to kill the dragon. Instead, she might become his only salvation."A graphic titled "The Comps" in golden lettering. It displays four book covers arranged in a grid: "Heartless Hunter" by Kristen Ciccarelli, "Fourth Wing" by Rebecca Yarros, "Shadow and Bone" by Leigh Bardugo, and "The Witcher: The Last Wish" by Andrzej Sapkowski.A self-made fantasy illustration showing a halfway transformed, dark-haired man, Prince Konstantin Veliki, with a silver crown and dragon wings. He is carrying a woman, a humble servant Iva, masquerading as a Duchess Zora, in a long, flowing cream-colored gown as they fly through the air. She is his guest but unbeknownst to him, she is plotting to poison him. In the background, a sprawling forest surrounds a magic academy, Kolegium with colorful, traditional Slavic-style onion domes—gold, silver, bronze and green. Each of the domes represents air, water, fire and earth magic respectively. Snippet text at the bottom reads: "Do you always sequester your guests and take flight with them?"A self-made illustration set in the catacombs under the magic academy, Kolegium, featuring classical-style statues on the walls. Iva, in dark armor, rides a bright, light blue-scaled dragon; it is Prince Konstantin Veliki in his dragon form.
They face off against a monstrous, ethereal shadow dragon composed of wispy, black smoke and glowing eyes — this is Konstantin’s fallen father Tibor Veliki. A brilliant golden sphere of light, relic of the Slavic god of light, Belobog, called Spark of Creation, floats on a pedestal between them. Text at the bottom of the snippet reads: "Let us dance, little one," the Shadow Dragon hisses in a dry whisper of the fallen. "A worthy foe," Konstantin responds. We take to the air to meet the darkness. Two gargantuan winged silhouettes hover in the abyss, suspended in a precarious balance. They mirror one another; two sides of the same coin, champions of Belobog and Chernobog.

#questpit #A #DF #Q In my world, magic isn't invisible. It lives in your hair, eyes, and color. And when the darkness takes it... it erases you.
A dark, atmospheric title slide featuring a black book cover framed with pale floral designs. The title reads “Born of Light, Cursed by Darkness” by Cassandra Habig. A glowing streak of multicolored light cuts through the title. Background is warm gold and shadowed, with text indicating “Adult Dark Academia Romantic Fantasy” and “120k words.”A dark fantasy blurb slide with teal text on a smoky gold and black background. The header reads “BLURB” followed by the tagline “Magic lives in color. When it fades… so do you.” The paragraph describes Rihalyn Embers, her hidden magic, her sister’s execution, and her arrival at a deadly academy. Decorative images include glowing flowers and a glass-encased rose, reinforcing a magical, fragile atmosphere.

Text reads:
Magic lives in color. When it fades… so do you.
Twenty-year-old Rihalyn Embers lives on Runyan, where magic reveals itself in color, and she has none. Until her sister Mahdilyn is exposed as a rare illusionist, revealing she has been masking Rihalyn’s iridescent colors and altering her memories to keep her safe from Abel, the self-crowned ruler who siphons color to secure his throne. When Mahdilyn is executed for refusing to join Abel’s army, Rihalyn is sent to Wychlith, an academy that trains mages to serve Abel, where combat trials force magic to the surface, victories raise rank, and defeat costs pieces of a mage’s soul.

At Wychlith, light awakens. Darkness waits.
Rihalyn clings to one goal: survive long enough to reclaim her suppressed power, uncover what Mahdilyn hid, and learn why she died for it. But when Kieran, Abel’s son, takes her under his mentorship, she cannot tell whether he is shielding her from Abel or shaping her into something useful for his own rise. Kieran wields dark magic, the same force draining Runyan of its color, and every lesson awakens Rihalyn’s light while binding her more tightly to him.

If Abel finds her, he’ll drain her.
If Kieran loves her, he may destroy her.
Now she must decide who to trust before Abel senses the light waking inside her, Kieran’s darkness corrupts it, and what little color remains in Runyan vanishes forever.A split slide showing “Tropes & Themes” on the left and “Comps” on the right. The left lists elements like color vs. darkness, shadow magic, dark academia, morally gray characters, slow burn romance, and found family, alongside romantic and symbolic imagery. The right lists comparison titles The Serpent & the Wings of Night and The Foxglove King, with brief descriptions of tone and themes. A short “Unique Appeal” section highlights a color-based magic system drained by darkness.A dark, cinematic slide divided into two sections: “Snippet” and “The Atmosphere.” The snippet features a close, emotional interaction between two characters with intense eye contact and tension. Below and beside it is a collage of fantasy imagery including glowing magic, castles, books, shadowy forests, and magical hands, visually conveying the tone of a dark, magical academy setting.

THE UNYIELDING MONSIEUR DE BLANC MEXICAN GOTHIC x STARLING HOUSE Dark Southern Gothic w/ Horror elements. 🕯️An orphan seeking security ⌛An immortal man bound by a curse 📰A marriage notice that is a trap Nellie must choose: her heart or her survival #QuestPit #Q #A #HR #H #DR
A dark teal and black patterned card for THE UNYIELDING MONSIEUR DE BLANC. The background has vintage deep shades of pink and purple roses on the top of the frame. Centered is a small hourglass made with bones and a skull symbolizing the immortal + horror elements of the story. There is a note on there that the story is 70,000 words and a Dark Southern Gothic with Horror Elements. A pitch slide with a deep teal background and black magnolia patterns. A skull with purple and pink roses and more deep pink and purple roses act as decorations. The pitch reads: "The Unyielding Monsieur de Blanc follows Nellie Moore in 1872, lured to a New Orleans estate by a marriage notice promising security. There, she encounters a man as captivating as he is complex, a man bound by a curse that has kept him alive for over a century.
As an impossible attraction sparks, Nellie’s search for the truth reveals that some secrets are meant to stay buried, and some doors, once opened, can never be closed again." Two book covers adorn the card with deep teal and black magnolia patterns, pink and purple roses framing the bottom.
MEXICAN GOTHIC - The atmostpheric dread and family legacy.
STARLING HOUSE - A cursed, burdened heroTeal and black magnolia patterns in the background along with a pink and purple rose decoration in the top right corner. Other images include, a candlestick with a burning flame, a pocket watch, a burned newspaper with a woman dressed in 19th century attire. The card includes a snippet of the book as below:

Nellie cleared her throat, and he turned slowly. His broad shoulders squared as he measured her with gray, unflinching eyes.

“I do not care for shadows in my doorway. Step forward.”

Nellie could not speak for a moment. Such a man naturally commanded her. He seemed powerful, severe, and entirely too confident. “I—I beg your pardon, sir,” she stuttered, her voice small in the vast room. “I am Nellie Moore.”

A brief unreadable softness touched his features before he stiffened, his expression once again a mask of stone. “I am Monsieur de Blanc, or Mr. De Blanc, as you Americans prefer.”

His thick French accent was like bourbon; it was smooth, but with a burn that unsettled her. Nellie stared, stunned. This was him, the man she was to marry. She had expected someone older, not this gentleman in his late twenties with a face so...strikingly symmetrical.

“Do find your breath, Mademoiselle. I have enough to manage today without adding a fainting spell to the afternoon’s agenda. I’ve never had much patience for delicate women.”

The insult was a splash of frigid water, bringing her back to herself. The orphan inside of her who spent her days scrubbing floors and managing unruly children suddenly bubbled to the surface. She adjusted the lace on her shoulders and met his gaze with a leveled stare that mirrored his own coldness.

“You needn’t worry, sir,” she said, her voice surprisingly crisp. “I am merely trying to reconcile the man in front of me with the one I was promised in the letters.”

A flicker of mild interest passed over his face. “Is that so?” he murmured, arms folded tightly. “Fortune favors you, then. I am not the man from your letters.”

THE LOVE OF MY AFTERLIFE x CHARMED 🔮 When a tarot reader loses sight of her purpose, she’s taken on a Fool’s Journey by her spirit guides to challenge her selfish ways and finally see the otherworldly connection with her (very platonic) best friend💜 #QuestPit #A #R #PR #S #W
Purple/pink ombre zodiac background with gold at the top. Small golden page break, with the book title in ombre yellow/orange DEATH TO THE LOVERS AND THE FOOL over top of clouds in the middle. Text under the title: 79k Speculative Romcom by Brittney Joan, Agent's Guide. Two deep plum tarot cards in the bottom left, one with a sun and one with an eye.Purple/pink ombre zodiac background with gold along the sides. THE PITCH at the top of the page in ombre yellow/orange text. Golden page break. One-paragraph pitch in a sans-serif font: Jade Lockwood is the Midwest’s most in-demand tarot reader, with a months-long waitlist and a reputation for channeling both the cards and the dead. She’s built a thriving business at Lunar Locke, but she’s also emotionally checked out, allergic to commitment, and quietly in love with her best friend, Elliot. When she blows off an unscheduled, desperate client for margaritas, a woman shows up the next day and refuses to leave until Jade reads for her—only to reveal herself as Jade’s spirit guide. Her ultimatum: complete a series of increasingly personal tasks to realign with her purpose or lose her gift.

As the lessons force Jade to confront the feelings she’s avoided for years, she’s faced with an impossible choice—her connection to the spirit realm or the person she loves.Purple/pink ombre zodiac background with gold along the sides. THE VIBES at the top of the page in ombre yellow/orange text. Two polaroid images of the TV shows “Charmed” and “Sabrina the Teenaged Witch” as comparative media at the top. Golden page break. Four crystal balls in the middle with star circles pointing to a specific comparative book title with the image. The first, Friends to Lovers, pointing to “This Spells Love” by Kate Robb. The second, Meddling Spirit Guides, pointing to “The Love of My Afterlife” by Kirsty Greenwood. The third, Raw Look at Grief, pointing to “The Seven Year Slip” by Ashley Poston. The fourth, Plus-Size FMC, pointing to “Zom Rom Com” by Olivia Dade.Purple/pink ombre zodiac background with gold along the sides and bottom. THE OPENING PAGE at the top of the page in ombre yellow/orange text. Two deep plum tarot cards in the top corners, one with a sun and one with an eye. Golden page break. Then, the following text in Times New Roman inside of a white-colored, rounded-corner box: Death is staring at me.
Rather, the Death card is staring at me. It’s the third time this reading it’s come up for my regular, Macie. She’s been on a journey of rebirth for a while and is at the precipice.
I arrange the cards, taking in Death, The Tower, Eight of Pentacles in reverse. When I shift the spread, the navy celestial tablecloth snags on my nail, toppling over the labradorite curvy goddess carving. Biting my cheek, I flip another card. Five of Swords. Shit.
“What? What’s wrong? Why are you making that face? That’s never a good face,” Macie rambles. Her round, hazel eyes are filled with what I’ve come to know as anticipatory terror.
Poor thing is an anxious wreck. I’m trying to guide her, not send her into a doom spiral about her life. “You know these cards aren't omens or premonitions. They’re pillars of guidance, leading you along your path. This card…” I sigh, cracking my knuckles, rings scraping against my dry skin. I have got to restock my lotion. Eleven minutes left on the timer and twenty to my last client. Maybe I’ll stop by Sephora before dinner.
     “Jade?”
Oh, right. The reading. I shake my head. “The Death card—”
“Death? Please, no. Anything but Death.”
“The Death card,” I repeat, “means your cycle is ready to renew. Paired with The Tower? Well, it’s time. Your spirit guides aren’t waiting for you to feel ready—they’re pushing you over the edge. This is rock bottom. Know that what’s on the other side is a brighter version of you.” [sample continues]
