While we're discussing how much influence academic economics research has on policy, 100+ studies have found sports venues are bad public investments. These findings aren't just ignored by policymakers, they are openly rebuffed with great hostility.

Stop the Sweeps! #Portland #PDX news.mpaq.org/stop-the-swe...
Stop the Sweeps
Sunday October 4, 10am-4pm
On the Plaza in St. Johns

Stand with our houseless community members against the cruelty, inhumanity and violations of Constitutional rights imposed by:

St. Johns Boosters, Portland Police Department, Central Lofts and Rapid Response Bio-Clean.

These organizations have conspired to make an already difficult life even more so for our #houseless community members. They have worked to:

1. Continue the sweeps by the Portland Police Bureau and Rapid Response of the #houseless population in general and, specifically, the 150+ day protest by members of the houseless community on the Plaza, in violation of their 1st, 4th, and 8th Amendment rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

2. Close the Day Center that so many relied on for basic services and a path out of #homelessness.

3. Establish an Enhanced Services District whose main purpose is to police the houseless population out of St. Johns in an effort to fully gentrify our community.

These are not the responses of a caring community. Our response should be, 'What can we, as a community, do to solve the crises so many are facing?' St. Johns has shown the power to activate and advocate for numerous issues, including Trans rights, No Kings, and Anti-Ice. Let us bring the same passion to the Plaza on Sunday, October 4 to show our houseless community members we do care.

Please: Bring non-perishable food items, sanitary products, and winter clothes to contribute to the community

😵‍💫By 2016, Portland Water Bureau was the largest U.S. water system with over 10% of households repeatedly exceeding EPA's water lead limit (15 ppb, not health-based)
Portland Water lead compliance results, since the SDWA/LCR regulation was promulgated, show elevated and excessive lead. For 6 years after national/local advocates raised alarm bells, PWB still had not lowered water lead levels.

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

- ventilate the air
