Today we’re launching our #TurnTheTide campaign, calling on the government to take immediate action to tackle rising energy bills, rent, and debt. It’s no longer a one-off ‘crisis’, but an everyday reality for millions of people. Something has to change. ➡️ bit.ly/4eWFL1M

Having your employment rights violated can be devastating. The Employment Rights Act (ERA), which received Royal Assent today, presents a chance to change this via a brand new “Fair Work Agency”. But is it up to the challenge? Read more in our blog: wearecitizensadvice.org.uk/a-new-era-fo...

"Scrapping the two-child limit and addressing high energy bills will prevent hundreds of thousands of children from growing up in poverty and help households across the country keep the lights on." Our CEO responds to today's Autumn Budget ⤵️ bit.ly/4pDEOzb
Text reads: "These commitments mark a vital turning point. We hope the Government continues in this direction, as there's still more to do to ensure every household can live a life free from poverty."

Scrapping the two-child limit is a brilliant step forward. Reversing this cruel policy will not only pull hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty altogether (and lift many more out of very deep poverty); it will also stop over 100 additional children from being pulled into poverty every day

The Chancellor has scrapped the two-child limit, benefitting more than half a million families. In April 2025, out of families impacted by the limit: - 6 in 10 had 3 children. - 6 in 10 had at least one person in work. - And 6 in 10 are receiving a health or disability benefit.

Scrapping the two-child limit will be transformational for children. This is a much-needed fresh start in our country’s efforts to eradicate child poverty and while there is more to do it gives us strong foundations to build on. 1/2

Scrapping the 2-child limit will be a huge help for hundreds or thousands of families. Really pleased that the Chancellor has listened to the many voices - including @citizensadvice.bsky.social - calling for action here. There’s always more to do, but the #AutumnBudget is an important step forward

Scrapping the two-child limit in full is a monumental decision. Well done to all involved in the Child Poverty Strategy, and everyone who has made the case against the policy. OBR says scrapping costs £3 billion in 2029-30 and will lift 450,000 out of poverty

Last night, the Renters Rights Act finally became law. This is excellent news for private renters, who for too long have been stuck struggling with insecure, unaffordable, and poor quality housing. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

🚨 Our new investigation out today reveals how thousands of people who've taken their bosses to employment tribunals & won, never got paid, even after they approached the government for help. This has serious implications for the Employment rights bill. www.thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2025...

More bad news for families we help @citizensadvice.bsky.social - the cost of their food shop still rising after years of spiralling prices. With half the people we help with debt already in a negative budget, even small rises push people closer to crisis

Headlines will be grabbed today by pressure on the government's economic strategy, but what these figures really show is that pressure on households never lets up. The cost of living crisis is not over. In last year we've helped 25k people with crisis support and food banks.

How to deliver tangible growth in consumer markets
UK households need tangible economic growth which puts money in their pocket. Consumer confidence is critical - cutting consumer protection is not the answer

If the UCPIP Bill becomes law it will cut PIP for over 400k disabled people & UC for over 700k people who are disabled or have a long-term health condition by 2030. Government’s own impact assessment says the cuts will plunge 150k people into poverty by the end of this Parliament

If the UCPIP Bill passes, the arbitrary 4 point rule will be enshrined in law. It will prevent the Timms Review from being genuine co-production with disabled people. Citizens Advice is urging MPs to vote for their constituents & against the Bill tday. wearecitizensadvice.org.uk/these-are-no...

Exempting current claimants from harmful cuts does not mean profound harm will not be inflicted as result of UCPIP bill. Citizens Advice is urging MPs to vote against the bill. These are not reforms. They are cuts to people who can least afford it. wearecitizensadvice.org.uk/these-are-no...

After all the rumours we now know what's in the amendment. From November next year, new claimants who need help to cut up food, dress, wash, or use the toilet would be denied the lifeline that PIP provides. For young disabled people and people who become disabled in the future, it is utterly bleak

Just spoke to @timesradio with a bit of myth busting on PIP and response to rebel deal. Yes, big concessions from govt for current claimants but this is a political fix that creates unequal policy. All it takes is illness or life event for any of us to need PIP. People will have less.

This week marks 5 years since the first Covid restrictions came in. Yesterday's news on disability benefits just adds to the sense that these years have been pretty relentless for people we help. Some quick takeaways from our latest research into how people's lives - and budgets - have changed:

Emer Sheehy @emerdemeza.bsky.social · 18/03/2025
Even before today's announcements, disabled people were some of the least resilient to any shocks or changes to their finances. Over 4 in 10 people receiving disability benefits are already struggling to afford their essentials every month, and 1 in 4 have avoided medical costs to pay other bills.
