New paper from Citizens Advice on how to deliver tangible growth - which puts money in people’s pockets - in consumer markets. TLDR: Consumer confidence is key & slashing hard won consumer protections without adequate safeguards isn’t the answer.

‼️ Bills are set to rise more than £350 this year, while Universal Credit will only rise by around £80. People turn to food banks when they can’t cover the cost of essentials. Rising bills and failing social security risk pushing more people to food banks. #AwfulApril

People have been hit with a perfect storm of price rises across a range of essentials including broadband, water, council tax and energy. At Citizens Advice we know that the latest hikes will push strained household budgets beyond breaking point, and those already in the red further into crisis.
