I made a new Mario Sunshine (Game Cube) deep dive with the geometry that they made just to create crispy solid shadows w/ vertex colors, and I also show the geometry of the ocean. Mind-blowing usage of polygons + vertex colors to fake shadows and details. #b3d

Examples of quad and ngon multi-plane change intersections. Both have their uses, depending on the minimum edge loops needed to retain the profile of the surrounding topo. Basically, no need to add more loops if you don't need to. Quading the #ngons would require more loops and more time.

3 subdivided planar surfaces joining in a ngon-based intersection. In this case, attempting to solve the ngon into a quad will require adding unnecessary loops and curvature adjustment for no advantage to the end result. In this case, ngons are the ideal and efficient solution.

I started studying to elevate my skills, and here's a thing done in #houdini at the end-half of my first semester. Its kinda intimidating at first, but overall Houdini feels like on the easier side of 3d software to use. Everything is so consistent. Idk I'll try to do something more cool in it next!
