Aw I read the first and was also like ‘eh that was fun’ aaand then my cat got real sick and had to be tube fed every six hours, and I read the next six books in two weeks while doing that because I needed to hear all about an indestructible cat for comfort and now I’m so darn fond of these books.

If you are wealthy, I think you should spend more money on clothes. There's no pride in buying clothes for the lowest possible price, as this puts downward pressure on garment worker wages and increases the likelihood of exploitation.
JD Vance tweets: "She bought a $50 dress for $8.75. America: meet your next director of the federal budget!"

He retweeted his wife, who showed that she purchased a $49.99 Old Navy dress for $8.75 after markdowns and coupon codes. On May 27, 2026, the Workers Right Consortium published an article saying: "Haitian Factory Making Old Navy, Hanes Remedies Illegal Firing of Pregnant Workers, Union Leaders

After engagement by the WRC with the brands Gap Inc. (owner of Old Navy) and Gildan (owner of Hanes), 14 women who were unlawfully fired have received remedy. Each of these workers received the equivalent of 22 months’ back wages and a commitment of priority rehiring from The Willbes, a garment factory in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, that supplies the two brands.

As the WRC previously reported, The Willbes carried out a mass layoff in 2024 that resulted in the firing of more than a dozen workers who, at the time of their dismissal, were pregnant or were union leaders. The dismissals occurred in violation of their protected status under Haitian labor law and, by extension, violated each of the buyers’ codes of conduct. The Willbes is a supplier of apparel to Gap for its Old Navy brand and to Hanesbrands, now a subsidiary of the Canadian apparel corporation, Gildan.

The Willbes unlawfully dismissed the pregnant workers and the factory union leaders when it shut down four of its production buildings and laid off more than 900 employees. While some of the workers affected by the layoff were allowed to transfer to jobs in the portion of the factory that remained open, five workers who were pregnant and nine who were leaders of the factory union were illegally denied the opportunity to keep their employment."

Some days I just feel like this Edward Gorey bird gets it.
An Edward Gorey drawing showing a morose looking black bird on a branch. He (and this feels very much like a he) is pointing downwards with one scraggly wing, and looking straight ahead with debt-filled eyes. His beak is long and sharp, like winter on the Great Plains. He is pointing with his right wing, but this means he is pointing to your left. Your wicked, sinister side. This is no accident. The Bird makes no such mistakes. But he is talking, and the text tells us that he is saying, "Beware of this and that."

Honestly, you feel his message in your bones.

Enormous Christmas chandelier over the Brown Palace tea room. This is where the steers are held. US ICE agents have been using tear gas on protestors in Minneapolis. There's been plenty of tear gas misinformation flying around on social media; here's a summary of the chemistry and the best way to get rid of it (TLDR: water): www.compoundchem.com/2020/06/09/t... #ChemSky 🧪
An infographic titled "Tear Gas: Chemistry, Dispersal Methods & Effects". It details the active agent in tear gas, 2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile, showing its chemical structure. It explains dispersal via burning canisters (using charcoal and potassium nitrate) or sprays. Health effects include eye, nose, and respiratory irritation lasting 15–30 minutes. Treatment steps advise moving to fresh air, removing clothing, and flushing with water or saline.

Snowdrop season is coming in the Northern Hemisphere! What links these winter flowers with Alzheimer's treatment and nerve agents? Find out in this infographic! www.compoundchem.com/2018/02/08/s... #ChemSky 🧪
Infographic on snowdrops, Alzheimer's and chemical warfare. Snowdrops contain poisonous alkaloids which, if they are eaten, can cause vomiting and diarrhoea. Falling levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine are associated with Alzheimer's disease. Galantamine stops an enzyme that breaks acetylcholine down. Organophosphate nerve agents target an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine; galantamine can bind reversible to this enzyme, blocking the nerve agents.
