I'm not sure how a fully decentralized economy would be expected to provide highly specialized inputs like that ANYWHERE, nevermind everywhere. Something is usually better than nothing.

States run elections! The parliamentarian will stop any nonsense during certification! These don't mean shit when his plan is to stay in power by force just like he did on J6. Only this time he has an army of pardoned psychos with badges and MRAPs and ARs and no fear of consequences.

Only if the left doesn't put forward a singular, credible candidate. If the centrist lane splits its vote between Harris, Newsom, Ossoff, plus whoever else (not counting Emmanuel, his campaign would go nowhere fast), then maybe we could actually get someone decent.

Where costs of benefiting from global markets are low, so are deaths due to famine. Chicken and egg problem? Maybe. But I like the odds of sticking with it. tl;dr - Globalized supply chains are a good thing, change my mind.

Disease, insects, and climate change are inevitably coming for locally grown crops, too, and plenty of people worldwide still die of famine or malnutrition because of poor local yields and high costs of accessing globally sourced goods.

We're very much getting into the weeds here but define "centralized". At global scale, even if ~80% of a resource comes from just one country, that's still usually spread over thousands if not millions of hectares. Argued the other way, how many people have literally died due to a global shortage?

The fact that you CAN raze a local forest to make enough geopolymer for a local town doesn't make that desirable. Farmability, economies of scale, and yield maths will still rule the day, even if the economy stops being a global one.

Depends on if you think decarbonization entails and/or requires the end of global travel and shipping, which I personally do not. If I'm wrong, then finding fast-growing and hardy tree-or other-plant-species that produce ash suitable for geopolymer would still matter.

When you attach the 32x to the MegaSG, the video has to come out of the 32x (just like when you attach it to a regular Genesis). Until the 32x has an HDMI mod, DAC is needed to play og hardware 32x on HDMI displays.

OK, looks like bamboo IS structurally a suitable replacement for rebar, IF (big asterisk) you extrude its fibers and press them into a composite first. So, not as simple as just heat-treating the whole thing and calling it good, and it obviously can't be bent like rebar, but still, very promising!

Bamboo stood out to me as odd in the article but after searching a little bit I think people are using it as a filler material inside of concrete pours to reduce cracking, not as a cement replacement. Would want to read studies on its strength to see if that could replace rebar, if I can find them.

I assume the reason that ingredient isn't mentioned in any of the RHA stories/articles I'm finding on Google is because sodium silicate itself isn't compatible for some reason...

Oliver Ghingold @emceebois.bsky.social · 4h
IMO replacing the sector is what we should aim for. "Shoot for the moon, land among the stars" type deal. I wonder if there are any carbon-neutral plasticizers that could speed up the hardening of RHA-crete the way sodium silicate speeds up the hardening of wood ash geopolymer.

3/2 The article says about 150 million tonnes worldwide annually. I'll need to look up the figure needed to replace concrete again, and do some napkin math on if this can finally make geopolymer a practical replacement for concrete.

2/2 ...the combined supply of both wasn't enough to replace concrete. Are there estimates for how many kg of rice ash is produced annually?

A message from Danny Trejo’s son about his father’s situation in Ben Shapiro’s pro-ICE movie.

“For anyone seeing this shit with my dad...
He was booked on a film, it's not pro-ice, it's not overtly pro anything. His agent described it as "a complicated story about a complicated time, where everyone looks bad except you, the hardworking Mexican shop owner who just wants peace"
He jumped at the idea of playing a good guy.
About 2 weeks into shooting everyone, including us, found out Ben Shapiro was involved.
My 82 year old dad has never heard of Ben Shapiro, I had to explain to him who that is, and what kind of guy he is.
My dad contractually can't bad mouth him, the film, or walk away without being sued for breach of contract. He couldn't even release the statement he wanted to.
It's fucked up. He's handcuffed to this stupid project, and swaths of people have instantly turned their back on him without knowing any of the facts.
Ben Shapiro got Mexicans to abandon one of their heroes, got his own name to the top of google's searches, and made us look like angry fools lacking any nuance. He wins.”

Apropos of my point, if you prompted every frontier AI "make up a new insult for people who overuse AI. Make it witty, catchy, and succinct", none of them would come up with anything as good as "sloperator". I think it's because it can't.

Desire can be restated as goals, though, and it's clearly capable of having those, including ones outside of what humans intentionally program them with. The lack of interiority is what distinguishes an AI's goal-seeking behavior from what we would recognize as meaningful yearning, IMO.
010
Oliver Ghingold @emceebois.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
My nitpick is I would replace "desire" with "creativity". I still have never been convinced that AI "art" is truly capable of making something new the way that a human can. It's purely pattern matching partial regurgitations of what it's already seen. It can't remix like we can.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…
