Unfortunately, I heard a lot of disappointment, frustration, anger, sadness, and helplessness when it came to families trying to convince school systems and doctors, to say nothing of broader society, that these symptoms were not just their child being a teenager.

That’s the trope. That’s the trope: they’re just being a teenager. And I heard that exact language pretty much from almost every family that I spoke to, which was that at some point someone said to them, They're just being a teenager.
