Bari Weiss and David Ellison thought their changes to CBS would be popular. Elon Musk thought his changes to Twitter would be popular. For years, they claimed they spoke for The People, forced into wokeness by the leftist elites who control everything. They said that because they believe it.

Nah, we should mock them and hold them accountable for the gig they’ve effectively stolen from others. There are plenty of capable talent who can either deliver a similar voiceprint pr bring an entirely fresh approach to the job, and they should have that opportunity over someone not doing the work.

I keep seeing people thinking this is a bluesky problem. If you're seeing this it thinks you're in a state or country with age verification laws. This is what every social media site will do if KOSA and the KIDS Act succeeds. Running to another socmed won't fix it, we have to fight the source.

A lot of discourse today about the failure of superhero movies, but it needs to be stressed that Star Wars and Masters of the Universe underperformed the same way. We need to stop making movies for 50yr old white men and make them for Gen Z. They're going. Obsession is in its 7th week in the top 5.

As promised, here’s a thread of my extended thoughts on Digital Circus and its finale! I tried to organize these as best I could, but I wrote a ton so apologies if I’m rambling. Spoilers, of course, and my words are my own - not speaking for Goose, anyone at Glitch, or my castmates. Enjoy!

Iran/Pakistan views this as a "lack of seriousness" from the US side and think the negotiation was a sham to save face with the world. Unfortunately, the truth is probably this administration is just too dumb and incompetent for this stage and do not care what "the world" thinks.

Trump II is an experiment on what would happen if you made an administration of only bigmouth losers, men who want respect but are unwilling to do any actual work. Everyone knows a Guy Like That, we've all been forced to do a team activity with a Guy Like That. Trump II is *just* Guys Like That.

Reading the masto thread I can't help but think that it is extremely emblematic that all of this is written in TypeScript and contains almost all of the exact antipatterns we've been harping on and on for the past what, three decades? Terrible error handling; no fail-fast; no input sanitization...

I think to reduce Caine down to “he’s just like AM now” is a bit too simple; I view him less as a villain and a monster, and more as a neglected child having a tantrum. His breakdown, while certainly malicious, was driven by anguish and confusion at the world rather than solely anger or hate.

I’d be lying if I said some of the reactions to Caine’s deletion didn’t break my heart a bit. Obviously what Caine did was awful, and he needed to stop. Yet I remember the kid I was, so similar to Caine - lonely, craving connection but dismayed and angry when most attempts to make friends failed.

To chime in on #TeamFortress2 malfunctions conversation: Most community-made maps and gamemodes go through extensive testing during development... using the community server infrastructure, and with the creators having full control over the compiled result Yes, TF2 breaks and here's how to fix it
Arena_afterlife was working on community servers flawlessly, even with 100 players! I’ve spent weeks making sure the tech is stable, but the discrepancies between Community and Casual, something I had no way to test for, caused things to break. Same was with VSH.

If Casual is here to stay, I wish the community creators had access to testing things in advance under the Casual ecosystem. Sure, the community is taking notes on how Casual probably works post-mortem, but if we’d be able to test and debug things as they’ll run in Casual before the update goes live, things would be much more stable!
Perhaps, maybe Valve could give the update participants access to a test build of the game before the update goes live, so that we could ensure everything is good to go.

On an adjacent topic, modern TF2 maps are made using community-made tools, which Valve, for understandable security reasons, can’t use. We could, hypothetically, bypass many of the engine limits using those tools while remaining compatible with the game, but since Valve insist on compiling TF2 maps on their end, we have to keep our maps compatible with the outdated tools Valve haven’t touched for over a decade.
There’s also a handful of engine bugs that could be bypassed if a map could be compiled using community-made tools, but alas.

This means that if the community mappers could send Valve the compiled result after testing it on the Casual infrastructure, rather than Valve having to compile the map out of the source files on their end, we’d have higher quality, more optimised, and more stable maps. In fact, this is how it was handled for CS:GO.
And it’d also avoid the bummers like missing textures, missing payload carts, or mp3 audio cache getting corrupted. You have no idea how vigorously mappers polish and double check their work after being selected but before the update goes live.

In addition to that, Casual sv_pure settings introduce asset loading related bugs on community servers they do not happen.
