A Halloween books cartoon for @theguardian.com

One:
It is all hallows' eve. The undead walk the earth, revenging themselves upon the living. At dawn they will return to the cold of the grave But first they will stop by the library and pick up some books for the coming year below ground..

Two:
A door has been left ajar.
A single brave librarian waits at the desk.
Late fees are waived.
The returned books will be exorcised by a priest.
The townspeople know nothing.

Three:
By morning, all that remains is a pile of novels in a heap of ashes where one ghoul, having spent too long browsing, was incinerated by the rising sun. A librarian dusts off the books and returns them to the shelves

It's cold today, and Facilities has shifted the outside-air-intake vs building-recirculation lever to a setting not in my favour. The CO2 in my office is ~400 ppm higher than normal, which isn't great, but isn't itself a huge problem. It's just a measure of how much of my office air is recycled […]

instagram story post by Devin Cooley (Calgary Flames goalie) who got injured today. it reads: “Injuries suck but I'm a very fast healer! Can't wait to be back and what a great opportunity to reset physically, mentally, and find ways to gain an edge in my game off the ice so I can come back even better than before. Sometimes what we don't ever want to happen could end up being exactly what we need!”

He then ends with a quote: “And why should we feel anger at the world? As if the world would notice!"

Simpsons based meme.

Before the referendum: Homer (Daniel) and family (separatists), on one side and a body on the floor with a crowd (Albertans) to the right.

After the referendum: Homer (Daniel) joins the crowd (Albertans) an they all point at the remaining Simpsons family.

Vote NO to the nine, vote OPTION 1 on question 10. #cdnpoli #abpoli #notothenine #alberta #referendum

"In 2023 Danielle Smith wanted to double Alberta's population to 10 million by 2050. Alberta's birth rate is 1.4. You can't even maintain a population let alone double it without immigration. You are losing your workforce to Smith's fickle brain.

What does this mean? Does it mean a tourist on a ski holiday will be denied healthcare if they break their leg skiing? Does it mean refugee children can't go to school or see a doctor?

This is theft. Most immigrants settling in Canada have a job within 3-6 months. Earning, contributing to your community by buying the same services in your community that you buy .... yet for an entire year, they can't send their kids to school or get healthcare .... but
then they still have to pay income tax. Immigrants PAY for those services. Don't deny them.

"ASSUMING" all Canadians citizens and permanent residents continue to qualify for social support programs (healthcare is mentioned). Read between the lines, folks. WHY should you "ASSUME" you wont continue to qualify for healthcare?

Elections Canada is tasked with the job of making sure that everyone on the electoral list is a Canadian citizen. There is no need to carry your passport to the polling station and a lot of Canadians don't have a passport. (But they will only be asking the BROWN people for proof)

Superior judges (appeals) are selected by non-partisan Judicial Advisory Committees who assess the applicants (10+ years of experience) to handle cases at the high provicial court. It is *really* important judges are chosen on merit and not for political reasons. You all understand what a political prisoner is, right?

Don't abolish the Senate. Watch a little CPAC and see how dysfuntional the House of Commons
is. We NEED that "sober second thought" but we need it to be 100% NON-PARTISAN.
REFORM the Senate !!

Before you vote YES on this, ask yourself, "What federal programs does Danielle Smith want
to opt out of?" Question #4 already suggests healthcare might be on the choppin…

One of the questions that comes up from time to time about the Alberta #Referendumb is how a divided population will come together after. I don't know. I do know there were several vandalized signs (on both sides) on my way to work today. #ABPoli #yyc

Talking to one of my kids this morning, about "Buddy Holly" by Weezer. I figure that if that song were written today, it would be Kurt Cobain, and the music video would be edited into scenes from Central Perk on "Friends." But who is the today-equivalent of Mary Tyler Moore?

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com

As we join the great theoretical scientist, he is deep in thought. So still, quiet and focused that he might almost be asleep. But inside that brilliant mind, what new idea is forming? What certainty is being meticulously interrogated? What ingenious theory is ready to change our world forever? (the scientist snores lightly) Ah, it seems he actually is asleep. And that's fine. Science is hard and not every day can be a success. We will come back another time.
