Imagine the Manhattan Project wasn't run by gov scientists to win a world war, but rather run by the greediest POS in the world for the sake of getting even more money they don't need and will never spend. Then imagine if the Manhattan Project shared their weapon with every bad actor on earth.

You can say what you want about their ability to follow through on any of it, but the GOP's "Contract with America" was marketing brilliance.

Too bad no one funded a sex cult focused on climate change! The different media dynamics between the very real threat of global warming (aloofness) and the imagined AI machine apocalypse (alarm) should be studied in great depth.

This feels like a psyche out, where they pick a couple of controversial podcasts of either flavor, then pick something incredibly mundane like Travis and Jason Kelce's podcast.

Even a generation ago, if you told people "you will be added to a government database for tracking purposes if you speak out," folks would be in an uproar.

I do think they probably ran his texts through an LLM and it hallucinated crimes. That’s scary and bad and it’s funny they got caught, but imagine how many other times this happens on a day to day basis against people with no rights, let alone the ability to publicly humiliate the AI prosecutor.

Quoting Jean Paul Sartre and having the response be, "Did he say that?! I always hated that guy" is usually a cue that you're hanging out with chuds and in mortal danger of enchudification. Duncan, your heel turn is nigh complete.

One wonders if this movie could have landed, but one also wonders exactly what the built-in audience for this film was? Some well choreographed onscreen gags and some well delivered lines but it's a very much a hit or miss effort.

Watching the film BRENDA STARR (1989). Very much a direct comic adaptation, and has a exaggerated stylisms of the format. Brenda's wardrobe in particular are a lot of bespoke costumes that make sense on the comic book page but over the top in comparison to actual mid-century clothing. #Filmsky

I think it's really telling that people point out the many downstream harms surrounding this technology and are patronized that they aren't an 'expert in nuance.' Yet any discussion of clean tech is immediately met with cynics discussing in broad strokes any drawback, real or imagined.

Why the folks who imply taking human decision-making out of the kill chain is some terrifying new reality strike me as out of touch. The current setup is outdated database→human who gives it the once-over then says "Well, computer says so... must mean we're good," and we ain't auditing that at all.

By no means the most important topic, but... The attempt to rebrand The Kennedy Center feels a very particular vein of cruel and shallow. As though we don't live in the shadow of 30 years of conservatives hollowing out support for the National Endowment for the Arts, Radio Free Europe, NPR, PBS...

I heard a ad today for "WAR.GOV" and it was a bunch of almost laughably overt "On the Shoulders of Warriors"-type tropes. And the whole time, I'm thinking how much these clowns with NO HOMO Leonidas fantasies are having their ass handed to them by the Arabian Pennisula's equivalent of Cliven Bundy.
